About The Position

The Assistant Principal (AP) at St. Malachy, part of Independence Mission Schools (IMS), will play a crucial role in fulfilling the mission of providing a transformative Catholic education. IMS aims to develop students intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually, offering a rigorous academic environment for children of all faiths in Philadelphia. The vision is for IMS students to be emotionally and spiritually formed by Catholic example, performing at or above grade level, and prepared for rigorous high school programs. The ideal candidate will be dedicated to student development, achievement, and well-being, as well as the pursuit of academic excellence. Reporting directly to the Principal, the AP will collaborate as part of the leadership team to shape the school's culture and direction. The AP will embody Catholic values in all interactions with faculty, staff, parents, central office members, and community partners. The role requires a commitment to student development, achievement, well-being, and academic excellence.

Requirements

  • Current PA School Administrator's License (K-12) – preferable but not required
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in the field as a teacher, instructional leader, or other leadership role
  • Clearances on all background checks
  • Experience in teaching and/or coaching teaching staff to use Common Core Standards-aligned curriculum materials
  • Demonstrated success as a teacher/school leader, backed by data-driven instruction, recommendations, and outcomes
  • Deep capability to effectively build, develop, and maintain strong relationships with internal and external constituents including staff, teachers, parents, students, board members, and community stakeholders
  • Strong leadership and staff development skills including an encouraging, motivating presence exhibited in team building, staff engagement, and successful conflict resolution
  • Ability to self-direct and prioritize among competing goals, exhibit flexibility and good judgment, and drive results in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
  • Capable of representing the organization and its goals effectively in both oral and written communications to diverse audiences

  • Ensuring opportunities for faculty, staff, and students to encounter God and the beauty of the Catholic Faith.
  • Supporting a schoolwide compelling vision of academic excellence and equity through strategic planning, change leadership, school improvement, and innovative practices.
  • Cultivating and upholding the mission, vision, and values of the school in all actions, communications, and plans.
  • Supporting the Principal in ensuring all students engage in rigorous and personalized learning and demonstrate high academic achievement.
  • Collecting and assessing data to make decisions and determine the most pressing needs of the school.
  • Driving results using strategic action plans focused on achieving school goals.
  • Supporting the Principal in developing a culture of continuous learning that maximizes staff and student morale and performance.
  • Fostering a positive, diverse, and inclusive school community that supports the development of the whole person and meaningfully engages all students, families, and community members.
  • Supporting school goals by maximizing resources and ensuring effective management of school systems and operations.
  • Supporting a year-long school action plan targeting all areas of the school rubric to achieve goals.
  • Making decisions with a focus on balancing short-term payoffs and long-term improvement, considering all stakeholders and implications.
  • Demonstrating continuous learning and improvement through self-awareness, feedback seeking, and self-motivation.
  • Managing time to consistently prioritize goal-impacting work while balancing immediate needs.
  • Handling setbacks, mistakes, and difficult situations with confidence, poise, and a focus on learning and adaptation.
  • Serving as an ambassador and advocate for the school's mission, goals, and achievements.
  • Supporting school development and community relations, including public relations and fundraising activities as needed.
