About The Position

The Assistant Principal acts on behalf of the principal in their absence and plays a crucial role in defining the school's mission, communicating goals, and ensuring the overall success of the school program. This position involves a deep understanding and adherence to Board of Education policies, monitoring and improving student achievement through data analysis, and supervising and evaluating school-based personnel. The Assistant Principal supports continuous school improvement, aligns instruction and resources to meet academic goals, and helps maintain a safe and orderly environment. Key responsibilities include coordinating student activities, managing student records, engaging in professional development for leadership growth, and ensuring effective communication with all school stakeholders. The role also involves overseeing school operations, supervising students at various events, assisting with class scheduling, handling student discipline and attendance issues, counseling students, and collaborating with parents, teachers, and the community. Additionally, the Assistant Principal supports substitute teachers and works closely with the Principal on supervising all school activities and performing other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Assists the principal in defining the school’s mission and communicating goals and expectations of the total school program.
  • Develops a working knowledge of and ensures compliance with Board of Education policies, regulations, and operating procedures.
  • Assists the principal in monitoring and improving student achievement through the analysis of appropriate, multiple data sources.
  • Assists the principal in supervising and evaluating all school-based personnel.
  • Supports the principal in the process of continuous school improvement to ensure success for all students.
  • Assists the principal and staff in developing a plan that aligns instruction and resources in order to meet academic data points.
  • Assists in maintaining a safe and orderly environment.
  • Coordinates and supervises student activities.
  • Provides written reports, as needed.
  • Assists in monitoring the maintenance and accuracy of students’ records including grade reporting and attendance.
  • Plans and engages in professional activities which contribute to leadership development.
  • Assists in determining and implementing school organization, student placement, evaluation, and services and programs to meet the needs of individual students.
  • Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing, with all school stakeholders.
  • Assists the principal with the supervision and oversight of school operations unique to the assignment.
  • Supervises students in attendance at assemblies and athletic events.
  • Walks about school building and property to monitor safety and security or directs and coordinates teacher supervision of areas such as halls and cafeteria.
  • Assist with scheduling classes.
  • Handle student problems related to attendance and discipline.
  • Counsel students on educational matters.
  • Acts in a supportive role with the Principal in working with parents, teachers, and the community to promote the effective flow of communication.
  • Supports Substitute Teachers in carrying out their duties.
  • Works in conjunction with the Principal in supervising all school activities i.e., dances, concerts, orientation programs, plays, musicals, field trips, and other special events.
  • Performs any other duties as outlined by the Principal.
