About The Position

The Assistant Principal serves as an instructional leader and member of the school's administrative team, supporting the Principal in fostering a positive, safe, inclusive, and high-achieving middle school learning environment. The Assistant Principal provides leadership in curriculum, instruction, assessment, student support services, school culture, and operational management to promote academic excellence, social-emotional growth, and equitable outcomes for all students.

Requirements

  • Valid RIDE Certificate as Building Level Administrator PK-12
  • Five years of successful classroom teaching experience
  • Demonstrates leadership and initiative in the field of education
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with the Principal to provide leadership for the continuous improvement of teaching, learning and student achievement at the middle school level.
  • Supports the implementation of district curriculum, instructional practices, assessment systems and school improvement initiatives aligned with Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) standards and district goals.
  • Assists in the supervision, support and evaluation of certified and non-certified staff in accordance with district procedures and educator evaluation systems.
  • Utilizes student achievement, attendance, behavioral and climate data to identify needs, monitor progress, and support data-informed decision-making.
  • Promotes and supports Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), Response to Intervention (RTI) and other academic and behavioral intervention programs designed to improve student outcomes.
  • Assists in developing and maintaining a positive school culture that promotes student engagement, belonging, accountability and respect.
  • Oversees student attendance initiatives, monitors chronic absenteeism and collaborates with families, counselors, social workers, and community agencies to improve student attendance and engagement.
  • Assists in the administration of student discipline in accordance with district policies, state regulations, restorative practices and positive behavioral interventions.
  • Supervises student conduct and safety in all school settings, including transportation, cafeterias, hallways, assemblies, extracurricular activities, athletic events and school-sponsored functions.
  • Supports the planning and coordination of school schedules, including student scheduling, testing schedules, supervision schedules and special events.
  • Collaborates with curriculum coordinators, instructional coaches and teacher leaders to support professional learning and instructional improvement efforts.
  • Assists in the development, implementation and monitoring of school improvement plans and strategic initiatives.
  • Participates in the preparation and monitoring of school budgets and assists with the procurement, inventory, and management of instructional materials, technology, and equipment.
  • Supports the implementation of state and district assessment programs and ensures compliance with testing procedures and reporting requirements.
  • Builds positive partnerships with students, families, staff and community organizations to advance school goals and support student success.
  • Assists in the development, revision, and implementation of student, staff and family handbooks, school procedures, and administrative protocols.
  • Coordinates and supervises extracurricular programs, student activities and school events to ensure safe and meaningful student participation.
  • Maintains current knowledge of educational research, middle level best practices, state and federal regulations, and emerging trends in school leadership through ongoing professional learning.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal, communication, organizational and problem-solving skills while maintaining a visible and positive presence throughout the school community.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Principal.
  • Regular attendance is an essential function of this position.
