The John A. Burns School of Medicine’s Department of Pediatrics is hiring an Assistant or Associate Professor to serve as a GME preceptor at affiliated clinical sites on Hawaiʻi Island or another neighbor island. This permanent, non-tenure-track appointment is part-time at 25% full-time equivalency, with an 11-month appointment. The position is expected to begin approximately November 2026, subject to position clearance and funding availability, and is renewable subject to performance and/or funding availability. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. The Assistant Professor participates in clinical precepting and assessment of residents and other learners, contributes to faculty development, and maintains an educational liaison with the local hospital or health system regarding clinical rotation requirements. The role also includes participation in Department of Pediatrics GME educational and administrative activities, such as academic half-day sessions, program evaluation committee meetings, and relevant community medicine or population health activities. In collaboration with the JABSOM GME Program Director, the relevant department Clerkship Director, and the JABSOM Office of Medical Education, the faculty member helps ensure the quality of clinical and educational experiences and compliance with applicable ACGME, LCME, and specialty board requirements. The position may include formal educational administration, service on JABSOM or University committees or the affiliated site's Medical Executive Committee, research or comparable scholarly activity, and other assigned tasks. Associate Professors have the same general duties, with increasing responsibility for administering research, education, and/or clinical care programs and less supervision and oversight. Applicants must hold an M.D. or D.O. from an LCME/AOA-accredited medical school, be board-certified by the American Board of Pediatrics within seven years, be eligible for Hawaii licensure, demonstrate ability in teaching and patient care, and be eligible for an appointment in good standing at the local hospital or health system. Associate Professor candidates must also meet the stated rank or post-doctoral experience criteria and demonstrate teaching, research, or program administration ability, significant scholarly contribution, and ability to serve as a role model. Applications require a cover letter, CV, five professional references, and specified certification, license, or education and training documents.
