About The Position

The Department of Media Production, Management, and Technology (MPMT) at the University of Florida is seeking a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor to begin in August 2027. This nine-month position requires an energetic scholar with an active research program in any aspect of media and technology. The candidate will be expected to teach RTV 3432: Ethics and Problems in Media, a core course for undergraduate majors in both Digital Film and Video Production and Media Management and Technology, as well as other departmental courses. The department serves approximately 500 undergraduate majors across two specializations and prepares students for careers in film and video production, social media strategy, audience analytics, UI/UX design, and digital marketing. The College of Journalism and Communications offers a rich research environment with various labs and initiatives. The University of Florida is a top-tier public research university with significant research expenditures and advanced infrastructure.

Requirements

  • A terminal degree (Ph.D., J.D., or equivalent) in media, communication, or a related social science or humanities discipline by August 2027.
  • Demonstrated experience for national and international scholarly impact (Assistant level).
  • Established record of national and international scholarly impact (Associate level).
  • Demonstrated success in research funding.
  • Evidence of excellence in university teaching.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct original research that advances scholarly understanding of media and/or technology, including areas such as media infrastructure, technology practices, sports media and communication, media systems, platform studies, entertainment media, digital culture and strategy, social/mobile media, and science and technology studies.
  • Teach undergraduate core courses, specifically RTV 3432: Ethics and Problems in Media, covering ethical, regulatory, and societal issues across creative production and strategic media management.
  • Teach other courses in the department, with opportunities to develop specialized upper-level electives and graduate seminars.
  • Pursue internal and external research funding.
  • Publish in leading academic venues.
  • Mentor students.
  • Contribute to departmental, college, and university service.
