About The Position

This position is a 9-month appointment split between two roles: Assistant Men's & Women's Tennis Coach and Fieldhouse Facilities Coordinator. The Assistant Coach will support the Head Tennis Coach in all aspects of the tennis program, including athletic, academic, and personal development of student-athletes. This includes assistance with recruiting, social media, practice, competition preparation, travel, and equipment. The Fieldhouse Facilities Coordinator will manage the day-to-day operations of the Student Fieldhouse, ensuring a high-quality environment for intercollegiate teams and events. This role involves scheduling, communication with facility users, coordinating with Rec Sports for intramural and club usage, assisting with maintenance and custodial needs, developing policies, coordinating locker room access, and supervising student facility staff. Evening and weekend hours are required for this position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Coaching experience in tennis OR participation at high school level or above.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Experience with or demonstrated knowledge of facility management.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Adhere to all rules of the NCAA, WIAC, and the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
  • Evening and weekend hours are required.
  • Travel for recruitment activities is required.
  • The ability to have and maintain a valid driver’s license meeting the criteria for driving a vehicle on University/State business is required.
  • Driver Authorization required upon hire.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire and maintain work authorization throughout the employment term.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to the Tennis team in all areas needed for the program to be successful including the athletic, academic, and personal development of the Eagle student-athletes.
  • Assist with recruiting, social media, practice, competition preparation, travel, equipment and other administrative tasks as assigned.
  • Help with the organization and execution of all home tennis events.
  • Conduct themselves in such a way as to enhance respect for the University, the Department, UWL track & field programs and UWL student athletes.
  • Effectively communicate with all staff members to create the highest quality environment for the 21 intercollegiate teams including all post-season events.
  • Assist in developing and sustaining a competitive program through, in part, the recruitment of quality student-athletes.
  • Identify, observe, evaluate, and recruit prospective student-athletes.
  • Assist in planning, organizing, and implementing recruiting activities within rules set by the NCAA, WIAC, and UWL.
  • Advance the university’s efforts to increase campus diversity by recruiting diverse prospective student-athletes.
  • Develop and continually maintain recruiting records and logs.
  • Oversee day to day operations in the Student Fieldhouse.
  • Assist in scheduling all spaces inside the Student Field House.
  • Communicate with facility users regarding potential conflicts and work to facilitate solutions to said conflicts.
  • Work directly with the Associate Director of Rec Sports to schedule all intramural and sport club usage of the Student Fieldhouse.
  • Assist the Assistant Athletic Director of Facilities & Events with general administrative tasks, including, but not limited to, requests for minor and major maintenance work, space set up and preparation, custodial needs, and space management.
  • Assist the Assistant Athletic Director of Facilities & Events to develop policies and procedures related to facility use, scheduling and applicable fees.
  • In the absence of the Assistant Athletic Director of Facilities & Events, serve as the point-of-contact for all facility requests or issues involving the Student Fieldhouse.
  • Coordinate and manage, in coordination with varsity coaches, all locker room access for locker rooms in the Student Fieldhouse.
  • Attend, and represent Athletic Facilities, at all UWL Athletics operations meetings.
  • Hire, train, schedule and supervise all student facility staff.
  • Attend weekly Athletic Facilities meetings.
  • Attend job-related clinics and conferences.

  • Other duties assigned by Director of Athletics, Deputy Director of Athletics, or Assistant Athletic Director of Facilities & Events.
  • Plan and direct the development of student-athletes in the skills necessary for successful competition in the sport of tennis.
  • Assist the Head Tennis Coach in the development and implementation of contest strategy.
  • Oversee recording, storage and analysis of video.
  • Maximize athlete and team performances by assisting in the identification of team strengths and weaknesses.
  • Demonstrate positive sportsmanship by refraining from publicly criticizing student-athletes, university support staff, officials, or opponents.
  • Adhere to all rules of the NCAA, WIAC, and the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
  • Implement team rules and policies developed by the Head Coach.
  • Assist the Head Coach in the development of in- and off-season programs as permitted by applicable NCAA Bylaws and regulations.
  • Promote a team culture devoted to academic achievement and ensure an atmosphere supportive of, and conducive to, academic success.
  • Monitor the academic progress of assigned student-athletes on the softball team to ensure that regular, ongoing, and necessary progress is made toward the attainment of a UWL degree.
  • Adhere to all athletic training policies and procedures.
  • Assist, as needed, the Head Tennis Coach and Athletics Business Manager on planning all aspects of team travel.
  • Assist, as needed, the Equipment Manager in all matters pertaining to inventorying, ordering, issuing, using, and returning uniforms, practice gear, and equipment.
  • Organize and oversee fundraising events (e.g concessions, camps and fall league).
  • Attend appropriate WIAC and/or NCAA meetings.
  • Attend job-related clinics and conferences.
