About The Position

This posting is for a full-time, 12-month, exempt position. The Head Men’s and Women’s Tennis Coach is responsible for the operation of a NCAA Division II Men’s and Women’s Tennis Program, serving as the Head Coach of the Men’s and Women’s Tennis Program. The tennis coach maintains a thorough knowledge of, and abide by all NCAA, GMAC and institutional rules and regulations. Failure to do so may lead to suspension or possible termination; attend all NCAA Compliance meetings as offered by the department; pass the NCAA recruiting examination annually; responsible for the actions of all assistant coaches, all program staff and the sport's compliance with NCAA rules; and participate in the public relations and promotion of the sports program. Essential Functions This position requires regular, predictable, reliable attendance in the office environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Three years of coaching experience at the collegiate level.
  • Knowledge of intercollegiate athletics, rules and regulations of athletic associations and conferences including eligibility, recruiting and certification.
  • Ability to objectively evaluate physical performance and mental capabilities related to the intercollegiate athletic program.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff and the public.
  • Strong organizational, oral and written communication, time management and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to protect confidential information and present a professional demeanor.
  • Team-oriented individual with willingness to take initiative and be flexible, and the ability to work under occasional pressure.
  • Ability to work effectively with an ethnic, cultural and diverse student population.
  • Organize and operate a competitive NCAA II intercollegiate tennis program.
  • Ability to have vision and develop a plan for success.
  • Ability to identify and solve problems.
  • Ability to work without supervision and accomplish goals set forth by the administration and staff.
  • Public relations and promotion skills.
  • Knowledge of University and department policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of NCAA and GMAC rules and regulations, including recruiting, eligibility and certification.

Responsibilities

  • Administer the intercollegiate Men’s and Women’s Tennis program in compliance with the University, NCAA and G-MAC rules and regulations as required.
  • Recommend and administer specific sports budget.
  • Participate in the public relations and promotion of the sports programs.
  • Supervise assistant coaches and other staff as required.
  • Consult with various campus agencies as to eligibility, admission of student athletes, facilities needed, security and financial aid.
  • Consult with student athlete as related to discipline, academic progress, personal growth.
  • Coordinate plan for physical conditioning and practice preparation.
  • Oversee practice sessions, pre-game preparation and on the floor, field, or court during competition.
  • Evaluate talent of prospective student athletes, organization of visits, and contacts with prospects and family.
  • Develop a strategy for coaching during matches.
  • Perform necessary duties in relationship to fund raising through the Oilers Club.
  • Plan and/or assist in organizing all aspects of team travel.
  • Establish consistent guidelines and requirements for participation in the sport of tennis.
  • Report any violations of compliance regulations.
  • Ability to coach the student athletes in game and practice situations.
  • Organize a team that is competitive and representative of the University’s philosophy and compatible with its mission.
  • Assist with the development of post-season and summer individual improvement programs.
  • Meet recruiting goals.
  • Event management.
  • Assist in Alumni Relations.
  • Perform all other duties deemed appropriate for the position.
