About The Position

The Assistant Medical Director (AMD) works collaboratively with the Medical Director to achieve clinical, operational, and quality improvement goals and strategic initiatives. The AMD will serve as the Medical Director at times when the Medical Director is unavailable. The role involves operations and performance management, clinical quality and patient safety, provider staffing and scheduling, recruitment and retention, provider performance and coaching, patient experience, education and professional development, and hospital and community leadership. Requirements

  • Works collaboratively with the Medical Director to achieve clinical, operational, and quality improvement goals and strategic initiatives.
  • Serves as the Medical Director at times when the Medical Director is unavailable.
  • Reviews departmental operational metrics and identifies opportunities for improvement.
  • Partners with the Medical Director and departmental leadership to cultivate a collaborative, inclusive, and mission-driven culture.
  • Reviews and monitors key clinical performance indicators.
  • Partners with nursing and administrative leadership to optimize patient flow, throughput, and resource utilization.
  • Participates in process improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing efficiency, quality, and patient outcomes.
  • Participates in strategic planning and growth initiatives for pediatric emergency services.
  • Participates in departmental quality improvement (QI) and patient safety initiatives.
  • Assists in development and implementation of evidence-based clinical pathways and best practices.
  • Participates in peer review and case review activities.
  • Provides timely feedback to providers following all peer and case reviews.
  • Acts as a key participant in root cause analyses and corrective action plans following significant events.
  • Supports the Medical Director in the development of physician and advanced practice provider schedules.
  • Participates in candidate interviews and hiring decisions.
  • Mentors new clinicians and facilitates professional development opportunities.
  • Fosters a positive departmental culture focused on teamwork, accountability, and excellence.
  • Assists the Medical Director in improvement plans when performance deficiencies are identified.
  • Recognizes and rewards exemplary performance.
  • Reviews patient experience data and satisfaction metrics.
  • Collaborates with Medical Director to implement initiatives designed to improve patient and family experience.
  • Promotes communication strategies that enhance patient and family engagement.
  • Collaborates with nursing and ancillary services to improve the overall care experience.
  • Supports continuing medical education and professional growth of providers.
  • Participates in educational activities for physicians, APPs, nurses, residents, and students.
  • Facilitates implementation of new clinical guidelines and educational initiatives.
  • Represents the pediatric emergency department on hospital committees and leadership councils where appropriate.
  • Collaborates with pediatric subspecialists, hospitalists, intensivists, EMS agencies, and referring providers.
  • Supports community outreach and pediatric emergency preparedness initiatives.
