About The Position

The Assistant Medical Director (AMD) works collaboratively with the Medical Director to achieve clinical, operational, and quality improvement goals and strategic initiatives. The AMD will serve as the Medical Director at times when the Medical Director is unavailable.

Requirements

  • Serve as the Medical Director at times when the Medical Director is unavailable.
  • Review departmental operational metrics and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Partner with the Medical Director and departmental leadership to cultivate a collaborative, inclusive, and mission-driven culture.
  • Review and monitor key clinical performance indicators.
  • Partner with nursing and administrative leadership to optimize patient flow, throughput, and resource utilization.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing efficiency, quality, and patient outcomes.
  • Participate in strategic planning and growth initiatives for pediatric emergency services.
  • Participate in departmental quality improvement (QI) and patient safety initiatives.
  • Assist in development and implementation of evidence-based clinical pathways and best practices.
  • Participate in peer review and case review activities.
  • Provide timely feedback to providers following all peer and case reviews.
  • Act as a key participant in root cause analyses and corrective action plans following significant events.
  • Support the Medical Director in the development of physician and advanced practice provider schedules.
  • Participate in candidate interviews and hiring decisions.
  • Mentor new clinicians and facilitate professional development opportunities.
  • Foster a positive departmental culture focused on teamwork, accountability, and excellence.
  • Assist the Medical Director in improvement plans when performance deficiencies are identified.
  • Recognize and reward exemplary performance.
  • Review patient experience data and satisfaction metrics.
  • Collaborate with Medical Director to implement initiatives designed to improve patient and family experience.
  • Promote communication strategies that enhance patient and family engagement.
  • Collaborate with nursing and ancillary services to improve the overall care experience.
  • Support continuing medical education and professional growth of providers.
  • Participate in educational activities for physicians, APPs, nurses, residents, and students.
  • Facilitate implementation of new clinical guidelines and educational initiatives.
  • Represent the pediatric emergency department on hospital committees and leadership councils where appropriate.
  • Collaborate with pediatric subspecialists, hospitalists, intensivists, EMS agencies, and referring providers.
  • Support community outreach and pediatric emergency preparedness initiatives.
