About The Position

The Assistant Meat Manager is responsible for managing meat department operations, including department readiness, staffing, supervision, price maintenance, policies and procedures, inventory preparation, department financial goals and objectives, department cleanliness, and safe use of equipment and tools. This role also involves managing replenishment and inventory processes, merchandising and sales floor standards, fresh food preparation and production, and risk management/avoidance. The Assistant Meat Manager is expected to demonstrate adaptability, coaching/mentoring skills, conflict resolution, problem-solving abilities, and provide clear direction. They must also maintain a strong safety and quality orientation. The role emphasizes building relationships, conscientiousness, excellent customer service, integrity, modeling cultural values, professionalism, and a proactive approach to taking action. The core purpose of this role is customer focus and supporting the company's mission statement by providing the best overall value to customers through competitive prices, product quality and freshness, friendly service, and cleanliness.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent required.
  • Minimum one year experience in a retail grocery store preferred.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Adaptable to different situations and the ability to respond with flexibility to shifting priorities and rapid change.
  • Ability to interpret, understand and follow instructions.
  • Moves, lifts, carries and places merchandise and supplies weighing less than or equal to 50 pounds without assistance.
  • Frequently reaches overhead and below the knees, including pushing, pulling, squatting, kneeling, bending, stooping, crouching and twisting with or without bearing weight.
  • Occasionally required to climb and/or crawl.
  • Stands and/or walks continuously throughout shift.
  • Visually locates merchandise and other objects, as well as verifies information, often in small print.
  • May be exposed to all weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, ice and wind) as well as, inside work with variations in heat, cold, dust and humidity.
  • May be exposed to cleaning solvents or other chemicals.
  • May be exposed to latex, eggs, nuts, soy and wheat.
  • Employment at Harps may be contingent upon completion and evaluation of a PEP survey, drug screen, employment reference check and criminal background check.

Responsibilities

  • Manage meat department operations including department readiness, staffing, supervision, price maintenance, policies and procedures, inventory preparation, department financial goals and objectives, department cleanliness, and safe use of equipment and tools.
  • Manage replenishment and inventory processes including ordering, replenishment, receiving, invoicing and accounting, back stock, reclamation and returns, damages and reworks, supply use and inventory preparation.
  • Manage merchandising and sales floor standards including proper stocking, rotation, signing, setting and maintaining displays, sampling and overall department procedures.
  • Manage fresh food preparation and production including maintaining food safety standards, food preparation and production requirements, cool standards and maintaining service counters.
  • Monitor, manage and be responsible for department’s execution of all employee, customer and equipment safety programs, standards and training requirements.
  • Proactively manage and monitor department’s potential risk liability and take immediate action to avoid any negative consequences.
  • Facilitate the resolution of conflict between others under supervision.
  • Clearly define issues upfront and use critical thinking skills and logic to effectively maintain answers to questions through a conscious and organized manner.
  • Set clearly defined direction and establish clear priorities, ensuring roles within the team are clear and individuals know what is expected of them.
  • Clearly assign responsibilities for tasks and decisions.
