About The Position

The Reynoldsburg City Schools’ Assistant Marching Band Director is responsible for assisting in the leadership, musical instruction, and operational management of the marching band program. This role facilitates student growth through rehearsals and performances outside of the standard school day, ensuring a high-quality extracurricular experience that fosters musicality, discipline, and community engagement.

Requirements

  • Valid State of Ohio Pupil Activity Permit (PAP) (must maintain current CPR, First Aid, Concussion, and Sudden Cardiac Arrest certifications).
  • Satisfactory results of state and federal (BCI/FBI) background checks.
  • Proven experience in music education or marching band leadership.
  • Commit to an extensive seasonal schedule including nights, weekends, and overnight camps.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and boosters.
  • Maintain high musical standards under performance pressure.
  • Regularly required to communicate with others.
  • Required to sit or stand and move around for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to push, pull, lift and carry over 25 pounds on occasion.

Nice To Haves

  • Valid Ohio Teaching License in Music (K-12).
  • Experience with OMEA (Ohio Music Education Association) adjudication standards.
  • Expertise in specific instrument pedagogy or drill design.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Head Director to choose performance pieces that challenge students and meet adjudicated event standards.
  • Lead sectional and full-ensemble rehearsals to prepare students for a successful experience at 3-6 Adjudicated Events annually.
  • Direct students during high-profile community events, including the Reynoldsburg 4th of July Parade, Tomato Festival, Livingston House Concert Series, and Varsity Football games.
  • Coordinate the booking of indoor and outdoor facilities for rehearsals and performances.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of Summer Camps and Summer Rehearsals, including mandatory attendance at a 5-night resident camp away from campus.
  • Ensure administrative compliance by verifying that all Pay-to-Participate student fees are collected and documented in coordination with the athletic/music department.
  • Assume full responsibility for student conduct, safety, and well-being during all rehearsal nights, performance nights, and travel.
  • Maintain a professional and disciplined environment that aligns with district policies and the "Portrait of an Educator" values.
  • Attend the Annual Appreciation Concert and any additional community/district performances as scheduled by the Head Director.
