About The Position
The Assistant Manager manages the daily operations of a fast-paced retail store, helping ensure efficient processes across customer service, inventory management, sales, merchandising, and store operations. The role aims to create a positive and welcoming shopping experience for customers while maintaining a productive work environment for staff. It supervises Custodians, Drive Thru Ambassadors, Sales Production Associates, and Textile Sales Associates, and embodies Goodwill’s mission to “Empower people to achieve their most abundant life” and its core values: Relentless Pursuit of Excellence, Customer-First Mindset, Humble Confidence, Passion for Mission, and Do the Right Thing. The Assistant Manager reports to the Store Manager, who evaluates performance annually. The position is full-time, day shift, and based at the Rochester store. It requires flexible availability, including nights and weekends, and travel to different job sites.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent, or ability to obtain one through The Excel Center.
- Strong supervisory skills and the ability to motivate team members and hold them accountable.
- Demonstrated ability to foster a positive and productive work environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to resolve customer concerns and uphold high customer-service standards.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug screen.
- Reliable transportation, a current driver's license, and proof of insurance to travel to different job sites.
- Authorized to work in the United States.
- Flexible availability, including nights and weekends.
- Ability to frequently bend, twist, reach above shoulder level, push and pull, crouch or stoop, kneel, repetitively use feet, and move the head and neck in twisting or static motions and look up or down.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to safely and effectively use standard office and light industrial equipment.
Responsibilities
- Participate in recruiting and hiring qualified candidates to build a competent and diverse team.
- Develop and implement staff training on company policies, procedures, and customer service standards.
- Monitor employee performance and provide constructive feedback and coaching.
- Take appropriate disciplinary actions to maintain conduct and performance standards.
- Supervise and coordinate daily store operations, including inventory, merchandising, sales floor operations, and customer service.
- Coordinate departments to achieve business goals, improve workflow efficiency, and provide an exceptional customer shopping experience.
- Establish and enforce safety protocols for employees and customers.
- Monitor potential security risks, including internal theft and shoplifting, and take proactive steps to mitigate them.
- Promote staff safety awareness and compliance.
- Communicate with the Store Manager about store operations, staff performance, and challenges.
- Participate in regular meetings about store performance and improvement strategies.
- Help develop and implement corrective action plans for operational issues, and monitor their effectiveness.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
