About The Position

The Assistant Manager assists and consults with the Store Manager on overall store operations and administrative duties, including determining methods and approaches to meet store goals. The role requires knowledge of the store’s product areas and departments, adherence to policies, procedures, and visual standards, and a commitment to outstanding customer service and merchandise sales. The Assistant Manager assumes supervisory control when the Store Manager is absent and is trained in the Store Manager’s responsibilities. The Assistant Manager helps manage store assets, personnel, sales, inventory, merchandising, ordering, scheduling, and profitability. The position also provides guidance to employees and customers, maintains customer-service standards, performs administrative duties, and helps protect company assets and financial information through effective internal controls. This is a full-time, hourly, non-exempt position in Bridgeton, Missouri, at Orchard Bend Shopping Center. The listed pay is $18.15 per hour. The position reports to the Store Manager.

Requirements

Experience working in a retail environment; footwear and athletic apparel experience is preferred.
1–3 years of customer service experience.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to assist in managing a team and keep up with overall goals and profits.
Self-starter with initiative to take on important tasks without being asked.
Strong attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and precisely.

Responsibilities

Assist the Store Manager in controlling company assets.
Consult with the Store Manager on action plans for selling, restocking, merchandising, ordering, scheduling, and other departmental and overall store responsibilities.
Assume responsibility for the entire store in the Store Manager’s absence.
Assist with personnel recruiting, training, and evaluation.
Provide knowledge and guidance to employees and customers across departments as needed.
Monitor inventory, sales statistics, and expenses to support profitability across departments.
Direct staff to ensure departmental responsibilities and standards are completed.
Keep the Store Manager informed about inventory movement and customer trends.
Maintain quality customer service, including helping customers as they enter and serving multiple customers during peak periods.
Promote and sell company services and merchandise.
Follow company policies, procedures, and standards in the operations, personnel, visual, and customer service manuals, as well as company memos.
Protect company assets and financial information by supporting accurate and effective internal controls and reporting potential fraud risks to management or appropriate officials.
Perform general administrative duties and train in the Store Manager’s responsibilities.
Supervise employees in the Store Manager’s absence, including interviewing and training, planning and assigning work, directing work, and resolving problems.
