About The Position

The Assistant Manager assists and consults with the Store Manager on overall store operations and administrative duties, including identifying methods and approaches to achieve store goals. The role requires knowledge of the store’s product areas and departments, adherence to policies, procedures, and visual standards, and a commitment to outstanding customer service and merchandise sales. The Assistant Manager assumes supervisory control when the Store Manager is absent and is trained in the Store Manager’s responsibilities. The Assistant Manager supports asset protection, sales and merchandising operations, inventory and expense awareness, personnel activities, and customer service. In the Store Manager’s absence, the role supervises employees and carries out supervisory responsibilities under organizational policies and applicable laws.

Requirements

Experience working in a retail environment; footwear and athletic apparel experience is preferred.
1–3 years of customer service experience.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to assist in managing a team and maintain focus on overall goals and profits.
Self-starter with initiative to take on important tasks without being asked.
Strong attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and precisely.
Team player passionate about outstanding customer service and selling merchandise.

Responsibilities

Assist the Store Manager in controlling company assets.
Consult with the Store Manager on action plans for selling, restocking, merchandising, ordering, scheduling, and other departmental and store responsibilities.
Assume responsibility for the entire store in the Store Manager’s absence.
Assist with recruiting, training, and evaluating personnel.
Provide knowledge and guidance to employees and customers across departments as needed.
Monitor inventory, sales statistics, and expenses to support profitability.
Direct staff to ensure departmental responsibilities and standards are completed.
Keep the Store Manager informed about inventory movement and customer trends.
Maintain quality customer service, including assisting customers upon entry and helping multiple customers during peak periods.
Promote and sell company services and merchandise.
Follow company policies, procedures, and standards outlined in the operations, personnel, visual, and customer service manuals and company communications.
Protect company assets and financial information by ensuring effective internal controls and reporting potential fraud risks to management or appropriate officials.
Perform general administrative duties and receive training in Store Manager responsibilities.
In the Store Manager’s absence, supervise employees, including interviewing and training, planning and assigning work, directing work, and resolving problems.
