About The Position

The Assistant Manager assists and consults with the Store Manager on overall store operations and administrative duties, including determining methods and approaches to accomplish store goals. The role requires knowledge of each product area or department and adherence to policies, procedures, and visual standards. The Assistant Manager promotes merchandise and provides outstanding customer service. In the Store Manager’s absence, the Assistant Manager assumes supervisory control of the store and is trained in Store Manager responsibilities. The position also supports personnel recruiting, training, and evaluation; guides employees and customers; monitors inventory, sales statistics, expenses, and customer trends; and helps maintain profitability and service quality. The Assistant Manager supervises employees when the Store Manager is absent, including directing work and resolving problems.

Requirements

Experience working in a retail environment; footwear and athletic apparel experience is preferred.
1–3 years of customer service experience.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to assist in managing a team and keep up with overall goals and profits.
Self-starter with initiative to take on important tasks without being asked.
Strong attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and precisely.
Team player passionate about outstanding customer service and selling merchandise.

Responsibilities

Assist the Store Manager in controlling company assets.
Consult with the Store Manager to establish action plans for selling, restocking, merchandising, ordering, scheduling, and other departmental and store responsibilities.
Assume responsibility for the entire store in the Store Manager’s absence.
Assist with personnel recruiting, training, and evaluation.
Provide knowledge and guidance to employees and customers across departments as needed.
Monitor inventory, sales statistics, and expenses to support profitability in all departments.
Direct staff to ensure departmental responsibilities and standards are completed.
Keep the Store Manager informed about inventory movement and customer trends.
Ensure quality customer service is maintained, including assisting customers as they enter and helping multiple customers during peak periods.
Promote and sell company services and merchandise.
Follow company policies, procedures, and standards in applicable operations, personnel, visual, and customer service manuals and company communications.
Protect company assets and financial information by ensuring internal controls are accurate and effective and informing management or appropriate officials of potential fraud risks.
Perform general administrative duties and train in the Store Manager’s responsibilities.
Supervise employees in the Store Manager’s absence, including interviewing and training employees, planning and assigning work, directing work, and resolving problems.
