About The Position

The Assistant Manager assists and consults with the Store Manager on overall store operations and administrative duties, including determining methods and approaches for achieving store goals. The role requires knowledge of each product area or department and adherence to policies, procedures, and standards in the visual manual. The Assistant Manager is focused on outstanding customer service and promoting store merchandise. In the Store Manager’s absence, the Assistant Manager assumes supervisory control of the entire store and is trained in Store Manager responsibilities. The position also supports personnel recruiting, training, and evaluation; helps manage inventory, sales, expenses, and profitability; guides employees and customers; and ensures that store standards and customer-service expectations are met. The Assistant Manager protects company assets and financial information by supporting effective internal controls and reporting potential fraud risks.

Requirements

Experience working in a retail environment; footwear and athletic apparel experience is preferred.
1–3 years of customer service experience.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to assist in managing a team and keeping up with overall goals and profits.
Self-starter with initiative to take on important tasks without being asked.
Strong attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and precisely.
Team player passionate about outstanding customer service and selling merchandise.

Responsibilities

Assist the Store Manager in controlling company assets.
Consult with the Store Manager on action plans for store and departmental responsibilities, including selling, restocking, merchandising, ordering, and scheduling.
Assume responsibility for the entire store in the Store Manager’s absence.
Assist with personnel recruiting, training, and evaluation.
Provide knowledge and guidance to employees and customers across departments.
Monitor inventory, sales statistics, and expenses to support profitability.
Direct staff to ensure departmental responsibilities and standards are completed.
Keep the Store Manager informed about inventory movement and customer trends.
Ensure quality customer service is maintained, including assisting customers as they enter and helping multiple customers during peak periods.
Promote and sell company services and merchandise.
Follow company policies, procedures, and standards in the operations, personnel, visual, and customer service manuals, as well as company memos.
Protect company assets and financial information by ensuring internal control procedures are accurate and effective, and informing management or appropriate officials of potential fraud risks.
Perform general administrative duties as needed and train in Store Manager responsibilities.
In the Store Manager’s absence, supervise employees, including interviewing and training, planning and directing work, assigning tasks, and resolving problems.
