The Assistant Manager is responsible for everything that happens during their shift, including staffing, paperwork, cost and cash controls, inventory, food management, customer relations, store cleanliness, marketing, profitability, scheduling, and maintaining store standards. The manager must set an example, follow all company policies and procedures, and expect the same from the crew. The role also includes general store team-member duties such as operating equipment, stocking ingredients, preparing products, processing telephone orders, taking inventory, completing paperwork, and cleaning equipment and the facility. On-the-job orientation and training are provided. The position requires communicating with customers and co-workers in person and by phone, processing orders, handling monetary transactions, and entering orders using a computer keyboard or touch screen. The posting also includes delivery-specific duties: delivering products by car to customers, distributing flyers and door hangers, and navigating delivery locations and terrain. A valid driver's license with a safe driving record and access to an insured vehicle are required. Work involves standing for most tasks, walking, occasional sitting for paperwork, lifting and carrying supplies, pushing or pulling trays on dollies, and occasional climbing stairs or ladders. Tasks also involve frequent reaching, bending, crouching, and continuous hand use. The work environment may include varying weather, temperatures from 36 degrees in the cooler to 90 degrees or higher in some work areas, food odors, cornmeal dust, cramped quarters, hot surfaces and tools, sharp edges, and moving mechanical parts. Delivery work may involve adverse weather, driving, and navigating multiple flights of stairs.
