About The Position

The Assistant Manager assists and consults with the Store Manager on overall store operations and administrative duties, including determining methods and approaches to achieve store goals. The role requires knowledge of the store’s product areas and departments, and upholding the policies, procedures, and standards in the visual manual. The Assistant Manager promotes merchandise and provides outstanding customer service. In the Store Manager’s absence, the Assistant Manager assumes supervisory control of the store and is trained in the Store Manager’s responsibilities. The position also supports personnel recruiting, training, and evaluation; guides employees and customers; monitors inventory, sales, and expenses; and helps maintain profitability and quality customer service. Supervisory duties apply in the Store Manager’s absence and include interviewing and training employees, planning and assigning work, directing staff, and resolving problems.

Requirements

Experience working in a retail environment; footwear and athletic apparel experience is preferred.
1–3 years of customer service experience.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to assist in managing a team and keep up with overall goals and profits.
Self-starter with initiative to take on important tasks without being asked.
Strong attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and precisely.
Team player passionate about outstanding customer service and selling merchandise.

Responsibilities

Assist the Store Manager in controlling company assets.
Consult with the Store Manager on action plans for selling, restocking, merchandising, ordering, scheduling, and other departmental and store responsibilities.
Assume responsibility for the entire store in the Store Manager’s absence.
Assist with personnel recruiting, training, and evaluation.
Provide knowledge and guidance to employees and customers across departments as needed.
Monitor inventory, sales statistics, and expenses to support profitability.
Direct staff to ensure departmental responsibilities and standards are completed.
Keep the Store Manager informed about inventory movement and customer trends.
Maintain quality customer service and provide assistance to customers, including during peak periods.
Promote and sell company services and merchandise.
Follow company policies, procedures, and standards, including those in operations, personnel, visual, and customer-service manuals and company memos.
Protect company assets and financial information by ensuring internal control procedures are accurate and effective, and by reporting potential fraud risk to management or appropriate officials.
Perform general administrative duties as needed and carry out supervisory responsibilities in the Store Manager’s absence, including interviewing and training employees, planning and assigning work, directing work, and resolving problems.
