About The Position

The Assistant Manager assists and consults with the Store Manager on overall store operations and administrative duties, including determining methods and approaches to meet store goals. The role requires knowledge of each product area or department, adherence to policies and standards, and a commitment to outstanding customer service and merchandise sales. The Assistant Manager assumes supervisory control when the Store Manager is absent and is trained in the Store Manager’s responsibilities. The position supports asset protection, personnel activities, inventory and sales oversight, merchandising, scheduling, and the completion of department responsibilities. It also delivers customer service, promotes merchandise and services, and follows the company’s operations, personnel, visual, and customer service policies and manuals. The Assistant Manager supervises employees in the Store Manager’s absence, including interviewing and training employees, assigning and directing work, and resolving problems in accordance with company policies and applicable laws.

Requirements

Experience working in a retail environment; footwear and athletic apparel experience is preferred.
1–3 years of customer service experience.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to assist in managing a team and keep up with overall goals and profits.
Self-starter with initiative to take on important tasks without being asked.
Strong attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and precisely.
Team player passionate about outstanding customer service and selling merchandise.

Responsibilities

Assist the Store Manager in controlling company assets.
Consult with the Store Manager on action plans for selling, restocking, merchandising, ordering, scheduling, and other store responsibilities.
Assume responsibility for the entire store in the Store Manager’s absence.
Assist with recruiting, training, and evaluating personnel.
Provide knowledge and guidance to employees and customers across departments as needed.
Monitor inventory, sales statistics, and expenses to support department profitability.
Direct staff to ensure department responsibilities and standards are completed.
Keep the Store Manager informed about inventory movement and customer trends.
Maintain quality customer service, including helping customers as they enter and serving multiple customers during peak periods.
Promote and sell company services and merchandise.
Follow company policies, procedures, and standards in the operations, personnel, visual, and customer service manuals, as well as company memos.
Protect company assets and financial information by ensuring internal control procedures are accurate and effective, and report potential fraud risks to management or appropriate officials.
Perform general administrative duties and train in the Store Manager’s responsibilities.
In the Store Manager’s absence, supervise employees, including interviewing and training, planning and assigning work, directing work, and resolving problems.
