About The Position

The Assistant Manager assists and consults with the Store Manager on overall store operations and administrative duties, including determining approaches for accomplishing store goals. The role requires knowledge of the store’s product areas and departments, a commitment to outstanding customer service and merchandise promotion, and adherence to policies, procedures, and visual standards. The Assistant Manager assumes supervisory control of the store when the Store Manager is absent and is trained in the Store Manager’s responsibilities. The position supports asset control, sales and operational planning, staffing, inventory awareness, profitability, and customer service. It also involves directing employees to complete departmental responsibilities and standards, maintaining internal controls, and communicating inventory movement and customer trends to the Store Manager.

Requirements

Experience working in a retail environment; footwear and athletic apparel experience is preferred.
1–3 years of customer service experience.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to assist in managing a team and keep up with overall goals and profits.
Self-starter with initiative to take on important tasks without being asked.
Strong attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and precisely.
Team player passionate about outstanding customer service and selling merchandise.

Responsibilities

Assist the Store Manager in controlling company assets.
Consult with the Store Manager on action plans for departmental and overall store responsibilities, including selling, restocking, merchandising, ordering, and scheduling.
Assume responsibility for the entire store in the Store Manager’s absence.
Assist with personnel recruiting, training, and evaluation.
Provide knowledge and guidance to employees and customers across departments as needed.
Monitor inventory, sales statistics, and expenses to support profitability across departments.
Direct staff to ensure departmental responsibilities and standards are completed.
Keep the Store Manager informed about inventory movement and customer trends.
Ensure quality customer service is maintained, including assisting customers as they enter and helping multiple customers during peak periods.
Promote and sell company services and merchandise.
Uphold company policies, procedures, and standards.
Protect company assets and financial information by ensuring internal control procedures are accurate and effective, and report potential fraud risks to management or appropriate officials.
Perform general administrative duties as needed and train in the Store Manager’s responsibilities.
Supervise employees in the Store Manager’s absence, including interviewing and training employees, planning, assigning and directing work, and resolving problems in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws.
