About The Position

The Assistant Manager assists and consults with the Store Manager on overall store operations and administrative duties, including selecting methods and approaches to accomplish store goals. The role requires knowledge across the store’s product areas and departments, adherence to the policies, procedures, and standards in the visual manual, and a commitment to outstanding customer service and merchandise sales. The Assistant Manager assumes supervisory control when the Store Manager is absent and is trained in the Store Manager’s responsibilities. The Assistant Manager helps oversee store assets, personnel, inventory, sales, expenses, customer service, merchandising, and daily operations. In the Store Manager’s absence, the role supervises employees and carries out related supervisory duties in accordance with company policies and applicable laws.

Requirements

Experience working in a retail environment; experience in footwear and athletic apparel is preferred.
1–3 years of customer service experience.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to assist in managing a team and keep up with overall goals and profits.
Self-starter with initiative to take on important tasks without being asked.
Strong attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and precisely.
Team player passionate about outstanding customer service and selling merchandise.

Responsibilities

Assist the Store Manager in controlling Hibbett I City Gear assets.
Consult with the Store Manager to establish action plans for selling, restocking, merchandising, ordering, scheduling, and other departmental and store responsibilities.
Assume responsibility for the entire store in the Store Manager’s absence.
Assist with recruiting, training, and evaluating personnel.
Provide knowledge and guidance to employees and customers across departments as needed.
Monitor inventory, sales statistics, and expenses to support profitability.
Direct staff to ensure departmental responsibilities and standards are completed.
Keep the Store Manager informed about inventory movement and customer trends.
Maintain quality customer service, including assisting customers as they enter the store and serving multiple customers during peak periods.
Promote and sell company services and merchandise.
Follow company policies, procedures, and standards in the operations, personnel, visual, and customer service manuals, as well as company memos.
Protect company assets and financial information by ensuring internal control procedures are accurate and effective, and report potential fraud risks to management or appropriate officials.
Perform general administrative duties as needed and undertake training in the Store Manager’s responsibilities.
In the Store Manager’s absence, interview and train employees; plan, assign, and direct work; and resolve problems.
