About The Position

Delaware North Gaming is hiring a full-time Assistant Kennel Master at Wheeling Island Casino in Wheeling, West Virginia. The role is responsible for managing greyhounds’ environment, basic care, and supervision while they are in the lock-out kennel. Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack is a Delaware North-owned and operated regional gaming destination featuring electronic gaming machines, table games, live greyhound racing, simulcast wagering, a hotel, dining options, and a showroom.

Requirements

• Ability to handle dogs weighing 50–100 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe, clean, and secure lock-out and cool-out area, ensuring kennels are properly locked and sanitized before and after each racing performance.
• Inspect the lock-out environment and greyhound holding crates before each race, monitoring ambient temperature and overall conditions.
• Oversee placement and removal of greyhounds in designated crates and inspect each dog for general health before handing it off to the leadout.
• Promptly report signs of injury or illness to the State Veterinarian and ensure compliance with greyhound racing rules and policies.
• Supervise cleaning procedures, including mopping and water removal, to maintain facility hygiene and safety.
