About The Position

The Assistant Head Swim Coach is responsible for performing a variety of duties to ensure the success of the Turtles Swim Team Program. This role involves coaching practices, creating lesson plans, maintaining a professional demeanor, and ensuring the safety and progress of swim team participants. The coach will also interact with parents and patrons, complete necessary paperwork, and assist with equipment and facility maintenance.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Must demonstrate proper swimming technique or provide proof of competitive swim experience
  • Hold current certifications in CPR, First Aid, and AED
  • Hold current Red Cross Safety Training for Swim Coaches or the ability to obtain within six months

Responsibilities

  • Coach practice in accordance with Turtles Swim Team philosophy
  • Report on deck ready to work fifteen minutes prior to the start of practice
  • Create and utilize a lesson plan with direction from the Head Coach
  • Maintain a professional manner at all times
  • Wear a one-piece bathing suit underneath uniform while coaching
  • Communicate effectively to the athletes in a manner that is understood by all athletes under your direction
  • Demonstrate knowledge of all competitive strokes and be able to get in the water and demonstrate strokes as needed
  • Be available to parents and patrons for questions or concerns before and after practice
  • Refer any problems or issues to the Head Coach
  • Accurately assess athletes’ progress and abilities
  • Ensure all equipment used during practice and/or swim meets is put away and stored properly
  • Complete all necessary paperwork completely and on time, to include: attendance, progress reports, etc.
  • Ensure that swimmers under coaches’ care are respectful to all staff and members
  • Assume responsibility for the safety of the swim team participants
  • Comply promptly with all requests and directions given by Head Coach, and/or Aquatic Supervisor
  • Respect the decisions and authority of supervisors
  • Ensure that all possible safety measures are observed, including the use of equipment and proper surveillance of program participants in accordance with Red Cross safety standards
  • Complete accident and incident report forms to be turned in to the Aquatic Program Coordinator, and/or Aquatic Supervisor
  • Attend required trainings and meetings
  • Perform maintenance duties when assigned
  • Perform related duties as required
  • Perform the job safely and in compliance with District policies, procedures, work and safety rules and the employee manual
  • Maintain a working knowledge of all general agency and departmental specific safety rules
  • Use material handling equipment or staff assistance when lifting and or moving objects 30 pounds or less
  • Report any work related or patron injuries to supervisor promptly
  • Attend required safety program and in service education meetings
  • Correct unsafe conditions and/or report them to supervisor
