Assistant Group Leader (PS 297)
About The Position
The Assistant Group Leader supports staff in carrying out planned educational and enrichment activities for the after-school enrichment and recreational program at PS 297. The role assists the Group Leader and activity instructors, supervises participants, and helps maintain a safe and supportive environment while following GSS, DYCD, and SACC regulations. The position is scheduled during the school year, September through June, Monday through Friday, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., for up to 20 hours per week. It is non-exempt and pays $17.00 per hour. The work location is 700 Park Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11206.
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Demonstrate reliable and consistent work habits and the ability to work with other youth.
- Be available during the listed program hours.
- Have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Have the ability and willingness to work in a dynamic team environment.
- Be committed to working from a strength-based and/or youth development perspective.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Group Leader with engaging sports and recreation, educational, arts and crafts, and special-event activities.
- Collect the attendance folder and other data as necessary.
- Supervise participants throughout the after-school program.
- Distribute snacks and assist with clean-up.
- Help monitor and maintain program rules and uphold the after-school model.
- Support activity instructors with lessons.
- Collaborate with the Group Leader to ensure a safe and supportive environment.
- Follow all GSS, DYCD, and SACC regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
