Paratransit Assistant General Manager
About The Position
The Assistant General Manager will help lead First Student’s New Jersey Transit paratransit operation in Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey. The position supports the General Manager and helps oversee daily service, working with operational teams to address issues, maintain service standards, and meet program requirements. The opening is tied to a pending contract award. The role works across the scope of paratransit operations, supporting employees and helping resolve service, vehicle-availability, and passenger or customer concerns. It also supports staffing, training, employee management, performance improvements, and compliance with contract requirements and applicable transportation regulations. English proficiency is required for job-related training, safety communications, company policies, employment documents, and other communications under applicable requirements, including DOT regulations.
Requirements
- At least five years of progressively responsible supervisory or management experience in community transportation, paratransit, demand-response service, public transportation, logistics, fleet management, or a closely related field.
- Experience in transportation operations, employee supervision, customer service, scheduling, and dispatch.
- Familiarity with fleet operations, regulatory compliance, and personnel management.
- Ability to make sound decisions and communicate clearly with employees and leadership.
- English proficiency.
Responsibilities
- Help direct daily transportation operations, including scheduling, dispatch, and service delivery.
- Supervise and support employees across operations and customer service.
- Work with maintenance and safety teams to address vehicle availability and operational concerns.
- Respond to service issues and help resolve passenger and customer concerns.
- Monitor performance and follow through on needed improvements.
- Support staffing, training, and employee management.
- Help ensure operations meet contract requirements and applicable transportation regulations.
