About The Position

Systems Application & Technologies, Inc. (SA-TECH) is hiring an Assistant Engineer for its Range Support Crafts (RSC) at Naval Base Point Loma in San Diego, California. SA-TECH provides operations and maintenance support for home-ported RSC vessels, which support fleet training for the Southern California Tactical Training Range in the San Clemente Island Range Complex. This is not a live-at-sea position: the employee works both ashore and afloat and goes to sea for a few days at a time, not for weeks or months. Applicants must live within one hour of Naval Base Point Loma and hold a valid Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) with a QMED endorsement. The Assistant Engineer manages daily deck operations, performs exterior maintenance, directs deckhands, maintains inventory of onboard deck-department maintenance supplies, and conducts equipment inspections as needed. The position reports to the vessel Captain/Mate. Sea periods may last multiple days without returning to port, which occurs frequently. Work takes place in varied weather and sea conditions and involves normal shipboard physical activity. Overtime is required. The position is full-time and non-exempt. The posted rate is $37.44 per hour, plus $7.50 per hour for Health & Wellness through the Union and applicable underway rates. SA-TECH describes its workplace as team-oriented and focused on supporting warfighters, and offers training, professional development, career advancement opportunities, and employee benefits. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance. Candidates must also pass background screening.
