About The Position

Olathe Public Schools is seeking an Assistant Drill/Dance Coach for a one-year assignment at the High School level. The position involves supporting the head coach and school administration in various aspects of the program, including adherence to district guidelines for fundraising, trips, money management, and transportation. The coach will work with the head coach to conduct pre-season parent meetings, communicate important information, and foster a positive and constructive environment for participants. This role requires maintaining a professional attitude, promoting good sportsmanship, and ensuring compliance with all district and KSHSAA policies and regulations.

Requirements

  • Must be appointed by the principal.
  • Must adhere to district guidelines for fundraising, trips, money management, honoring of contracts, credit card use and transportation.
  • Must teach and coach in a positive and constructive manner.
  • Must maintain a professional attitude in all situations.
  • Must provide an environment that promotes good sportsmanship.
  • Must comply with and communicate to participants/parents all USD #233 Board policies.
  • Must ensure all team members understand the dangers associated with hazing and ensure that no initiation or hazing activities take place.
  • Must monitor the safety of equipment, playing surfaces, and performance environments.
  • Must maintain detailed practice plans.
  • Must never leave athletes unsupervised.
  • Must provide detailed and repeated instruction with regards to the performance of high-risk activities.
  • Must adhere to the district’s lightning and hot weather guidelines.
  • Must evaluate injuries and lack of physical conditioning.
  • Must comply with all KSHSAA and USD #233 rules and regulations, including participant eligibility, required physical examinations, district substance abuse policy, and other KSHSAA Handbook guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Fulfill applicable roles and responsibilities as directed by the school’s administration and head coach.
  • Adhere to district guidelines for fundraising, trips, money management, honoring of contracts, credit card use and transportation.
  • Work with the head coach to conduct a pre-season meeting with parents to communicate expectations, sportsmanship guidelines, schedules, transportation, insurance, injury handling (including concussions), parent-coach communication, substance abuse guidelines, and lettering guidelines.
  • Provide information to all participants and school administration.
  • Teach and coach in a positive and constructive manner.
  • Maintain a professional attitude in all situations and adhere to the district’s guiding principles for coaches.
  • Provide an environment that promotes good sportsmanship.
  • Comply with and communicate to participants/parents all USD #233 Board policies, including the Student Code of Conduct.
  • Ensure all team members understand the dangers associated with hazing and ensure that no initiation or hazing activities take place.
  • Monitor the safety of equipment, playing surfaces, and performance environments.
  • Understand and implement the duties of any coach, including maintaining detailed practice plans, never leaving athletes unsupervised, providing detailed and repeated instruction with regards to the performance of high-risk activities, adhering to lightning and hot weather guidelines, and evaluating injuries and lack of physical conditioning.
  • Comply with all KSHSAA and USD #233 rules and regulations, including participant eligibility, required physical examinations, district substance abuse policy, and other KSHSAA Handbook guidelines.
