About The Position

The Assistant Director, Student Conduct is an educator responsible for the implementation of a comprehensive learning-focused, procedurally-sound administration of the Undergraduate Student Code of Conduct and directs educational programs and interventions for students. The Assistant Director proactively contributes to the educational development of students by fostering an understanding and commitment to the rights and responsibilities of students in the larger University community in the spirit of the pro humanitate.

Requirements

Master’s degree in student personnel, higher education, counseling, organizational behavior, or a related field from a regionally accredited institution.
Minimum of three years professional, full-time, progressively responsible, work experience.
Two years as a graduate assistant is equivalent to one year of professional experience.
Experience in student conduct, residence life and housing, or fraternity and sorority life.
Must demonstrate successful experience in reviewing complaints, conducting intake meetings, consulting with key partners, interviewing involved parties, and resolving cases, either through informal or formal mechanisms.
Success developing and maintaining effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and other relevant stakeholders.
Demonstrated knowledge of community programming, leadership development, conflict resolution, and legal issues in higher education.
Excellent written communication skills.
Exceptional public speaking and facilitation skills with individuals and groups.

Nice To Haves

Three or more years of full-time student conduct, compliance, or similar work experience in a post-secondary setting.
Demonstrated knowledge of legal issues common in higher education and conduct, such as due process, fundamental fairness, higher education law, diversity and inclusion, Title IX, Violence Against Women Act, Clery Act, other applicable civil rights laws and regulations and state laws.
Demonstrated knowledge of Student development theory and practice such as student welfare, safety and security, cultural competence, ethical development, social identity development, leadership development, community building, social justice, restorative justice, conflict resolution theory, motivational interviewing, and related theories of human motivation, change, and development.
Experience facilitating assessment of program and learning outcomes.
Experience facilitating alternative resolutions.

Responsibilities

Directs a comprehensive educational student conduct system, including, but not limited to, conducting training, case assignments, investigations, the consistent and fair application of standards, outcome development, and outcome compliance.
Utilize student development theory and practice in the student conduct process.
Counsel students on an individual or group basis regarding behavioral, academic, substance abuse, safety, and emotional issues.
Initiate referrals when appropriate to proper resource agencies on campus including Title IX, University Counseling, SAFE Office, and more.
Serves as a hearing officer for alleged violations of the University’s Student Code of Conduct.
Manages alternative case resolution processes (e.g. conflict resolution, facilitated dialogues, mediations, and restorative justice), supportive measures, and adjudicative processes.
Serves as a neutral and impartial administrative investigator who independently plans, conducts, and documents investigations concerning complaints of violations of the Code of Conduct.
Conduct investigations involving students, student organizations, clubs, and third parties.
Assists with the development of policies, procedures, and practices.
Serves as an office liaison to Residence Life and Housing, Wake Forest University Police Department, Title IX, and other offices for student complaints, incident reports, investigations, and resolutions.
Recruits, trains, advises, mentors, and evaluates members of Student Conduct Advisors, Hearing Panels, Honors and Ethics Council, and Judicial Council.
Collaborates with and trains Residence Life and Housing Conduct Officers to adjudicate violations of Residence Life policies and the Code of Conduct.
Manages all aspects of the Student Conduct Advisor program, including but not limited to recruitment, training, advisement, promotion, and evaluation.
Manages and supervises graduate student employees, including their caseloads, investigations, and adjudications.
Manages information technology needs as they relate to Student Conduct, including but not limited to website, student conduct software), and related portals.
Maintains the confidentiality of student records and student conduct files in accordance with the University, state and federal regulations.
Provides quantitative and qualitative information for assessment and compliance throughout the year.
Facilitates campus-wide programming to encourage belonging, mattering, thriving, respect, and accountability, while bringing awareness to the work of the Student Conduct and Office of the Dean of Students.
Complete the required training to be classified as a Campus Security Authority under the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act).
Serves as a member of Alcohol and Other Drug Coalition on Alcohol, Drugs, and Student Health, as well as additional committees, as needed.
Works collaboratively with members of Campus Life and other members of the University community to support the integration of the mission of the Division of Campus Life and the achievement of short- and long-term goals and objectives that are aligned with the goals of Office of the Dean of Students and the University.
Maintains a high degree of professionalism and serves as a positive role model to staff and students.
