About The Position

The Assistant Director of Transportation, with a focus on Safety, is responsible for developing and training current and future Bus Drivers and Bus Monitors, in conjunction with supporting the Director of Transportation. This role involves ensuring compliance with regulations, maintaining records, and collaborating with various programs to support student transportation needs. Requirements

  • 2 years as School Bus Driver working with Children
  • 2 years Supervisory experience
  • High School degree or equivalent
  • Pass CORI/SORI/DCF/Fingerprinting background checks
  • Pass Pre-Employment Drug Test
  • Valid CDL A or B with P and S Endorsements
  • 2 Years of Experience in supervising Pupil Transportation
  • 3 Years Clear MVR of Violation/Accidents
  • Excellent customer service, organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to motivate students and collaborate with others around program issues, and team teaching
  • Valid Massachusetts School Bus Drivers Certificate
  • Valid School Bus Driver Instructor Certificate
  • Current or be able to obtain Notary Public within 3 months of hire
  • Certified Passenger Safety Technician
  • Proficient Computer Skills to include Microsoft Word, Excel, Internet and comfort learning new software and tracking systems

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) preferred
  • Evidence of recent Mantoux test, physical exam and MMR Vaccine
  • Bilingual skills (English/Spanish, English/Khmer English/Portuguese)

Responsibilities

  • Train Bus Drivers and Bus Monitors on policies and procedures for monitoring and driving responsibilities, including bus evacuation training.
  • Provide instructions to employees/new hires to obtain/maintain CDL licensure.
  • Develop and maintain Driver/Monitor Training Programs and Records.
  • Schedule First Aid/CPR classes and Bus Evacuation Training.
  • Maintain PQ Registry of Drivers/Monitors.
  • Perform observations of Drivers/Monitors.
  • Maintain Accident and Drug & Alcohol Logs.
  • Keep Drivers current on FMSCA rules.
  • Follow Transportation policies and procedures as outlined.
  • Work collaboratively with the programs to understand program designs and how best to support the drop-off and pick-up of children.
  • Participate as a member of the leadership team and attend all required agency and program-related meetings.
  • Assure all policy and procedures are current and compliant.
  • Participate in and make recommendations for hiring Bus Drivers and Monitors.
  • Keep staff up to date with all rules, regulations, and procedures relating to the Transportation Department.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
