About The Position

The New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) regulates New York City’s for-hire transportation industry. The Office of Community Affairs (OCA) is TLC’s primary public-facing unit, handling non-licensing correspondence, interfacing with elected officials and sister city agencies, providing language access, and working with the Office of Policy to keep licensees, industry stakeholders, and the public informed about agency rules and initiatives. The Assistant Director of Strategic Engagement leads driver advocacy and feedback efforts, develops partnerships with culturally competent groups, and supports agency priorities through driver engagement. The role supervises the driver engagement support team and serves as a liaison for drivers, ensuring their perspectives are represented in agency planning and decision-making. It establishes feedback channels and engagement forums, tracks and analyzes driver concerns, coordinates their referral and follow-up across agency divisions, and communicates agency responses to drivers. The position also supports the Assistant Commissioner of Engagement and Community Affairs in building relationships with industry leaders, community partners, advocacy organizations, and other external stakeholders. It cultivates partnerships—particularly with groups connected to communities of color, social services, and healthcare—facilitates engagement opportunities, synthesizes feedback into recommendations, and represents the agency at external events and meetings. The Assistant Director supports agency initiatives through strategic engagement, stakeholder coordination, and outreach; manages relevant agency protocols; prepares briefings and engagement materials; and coordinates with the Owner Driver Resource Center and Deputy Director of Community Affairs. Outreach, projects, and events may require work during evenings and weekends, as assigned by the supervisor. The position is based in New York, NY.
