About The Position

As the Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON), reporting directly to the Director of Nursing, you will serve as a coach, mentor, and supervisor for the Care Giving Department in the absence of a licensed nurse and Director of Nursing. This role involves providing support and direct care to residents in their activities of daily living, fostering independence, promoting individuality, and respecting resident privacy. You will also participate in the orientation and onboarding of new associates, conduct ongoing training, and collaborate on problem-solving for caregiver issues. The position requires making physician and therapy appointments, arranging transportation, assisting residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADL) per their Individualized Service Plan, and ensuring the completion of documentation. You will also support resident participation in activities, review resident medical records, maintain a safe and clean environment, and report changes in resident status to the Director of Nursing. Protecting resident belongings and assisting with care during staffing shortages are also key responsibilities. The ADON will act as Lead Caregiver under the Director of Nursing's instruction and carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable laws.

Requirements

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a college or technical school
  • LPN or RN licensure in Nursing
  • CBA (Community-Based Assessment) certification in Missouri
  • Collaborative team player able to establish effective working relationships with team members.
  • Demonstrated experience in promoting a high level of customer service and hospitality towards and among all residents, associates, and visitors.
  • Possess sound organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and with a strong attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated to accomplish goals with a strong sense of accountability for results.
  • Demonstrated communication excellence, verbally and in writing, comfortable presenting to large groups.
  • Dependable with a strong work ethic.
  • Possess an appreciation of seniors and an understanding of the aging process.
  • Basic knowledge in Microsoft Word, Excel and internet browsers are required.

  • Education in gerontology, dementia care, recreation therapy, social work or extensive professional experience

Responsibilities

  • Creating the Caregiver schedule, consulting with the Director of Nursing when necessary and being the point person for scheduling-related questions, including being on-call for scheduling issues.
  • Supervising caregivers when the licensed nurse or Director of Nursing is unavailable.
  • Serving as Manager-on-Duty on a rotational basis with other management staff.
  • Participating in competency training of new associates, overseeing the orientation and onboarding process, and conducting ongoing training for caregiving associates.
  • Collaborating to problem-solve and address issues with new caregiver associates in a timely manner.
  • Making physician appointments, therapy appointments, and arranging for transportation to appointments as needed.
  • Assisting residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADL) per Individualized Service Plan.
  • Attending to the individual needs of residents, which may include assistance with grooming, bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, incontinent care, toileting, colostomy care, prosthetic appliances, transferring, ambulation, range of motion, communicating and/or other needs in keeping with the Individualized Service Plan requirements.
  • Supervising and assuring completion of any required documentation in the resident’s medical record.
  • Supporting resident’s participation in scheduled and unscheduled activities.
  • Reviewing and following all instructions on the resident’s medical record.
  • Using good body mechanics and monitoring environmental factors for potential safety hazards daily.
  • Maintaining a clean, orderly, and safe environment for residents and complying with and monitoring adherence to infection control and medication policies and procedures.
  • Informing the Director of Nursing, or other appropriate staff regarding changes in resident physical, emotional or behavioral status, orally and via the communication log.
  • Protecting the personal belongings of each resident, including eyeglasses, dentures, hearing aids, furnishings, jewelry, clothing, and memorabilia; promptly reporting missing items according to the Company’s policy and participating in efforts to locate missing items.
  • Working weekends and/or evenings to assist with care in the event of a call-off or staffing shortage.
  • Acting as Lead Caregiver under direct instruction of the Director of Nursing.
