About The Position

Under the direction of the Center for Electron Microscopy and Analysis (CEMAS) Director, serves as the CEMAS Assistant Director and provides high-level oversight of the center's business operations and facility research and outreach efforts to ensure alignment with strategic plan; directs and manages the formulation and implementation of CEMAS policies and procedures to streamline the center's operations; consults with the Director and College of Engineering (CoE) senior leadership to manage all administrative, operational, fiscal, and human resources functions within CEMAS; integrates the personnel, fiscal, and operations functions of CEMAS to create a costeffective model; explores new areas of service needs and recommends new strategies to meet these needs; partners with the Director to support the Center's vision and organizational structure that enables mutually beneficial relationships with key partners, including key agreements and workflow practices, and assists to define key roles responsibilities and recruits key staff to realize this enterprise and expand the facility user base; assists in cultivating new collaborative relationships within the university and with external stakeholders in industry, and federal and state government; provides assistance and coordinates grant submission and execution with external stakeholders; establishes priorities and supervises administrative staff (e.g. provides developmental opportunities, coaches staff to foster development, evaluates performance, approves section staffing levels, recommends discipline, etc.); supports the Director with centerwide oversight and mentorship of staff, students, space and facilities, and research operations; leads and oversees CEMAS events, visitors and outreach programs; oversees budget preparation, monitoring expenses both University and research related; oversees management of fiscal processes; manages recruiting and onboarding of administrative and research staff and evaluates staffing needs; collaborates with Engineering Research Administation (ERA) senior staff to ensure CEMAS's compliance to with applicable operational policies; analyzes Center and program data and provides metrics to invested leaders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Level Degree in business administration/management, engineering management, or equivalent.
  • 6 years’ experience overseeing the business and/or administrative operations of an assigned area.
  • Proven ability to effectively participate in the planning, organization and operation of a growing, diverse and technically complex research center.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Proven success in overseeing the management of budgets, personnel, administrative operations, and programmatic initiatives in an engineering, research setting.
