As the Assistant Director of Athletic Medicine, you will play a critical role in supporting the health, performance, and well-being of our NCAA Division I student-athletes—most notably Women’s Basketball—while working in a collaborative, high-performance athletics environment grounded in care, trust, and excellence. You’ll join a dedicated athletic medicine team that partners closely with coaches, physicians, administrators, and families to ensure our student-athletes can compete, grow, and thrive—on the court and beyond. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Athletic Training, Athletic Medicine, Kinesiology, or a related field.
  • Certification by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification (NATABOC).
  • Eligibility for licensure with the North Carolina Board of Athletic Trainer Examiners.
  • Working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
  • At least one year of athletic training experience required; three to five years preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, sound clinical judgment, and a commitment to student-athlete well-being.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with basketball student-athletes strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries and illnesses for NCAA Division I student-athletes, with primary responsibility for Women’s Basketball.
  • Serve as a trusted healthcare resource for student-athletes, coaches, and families by clearly communicating injury status, care plans, and return-to-play decisions.
  • Collaborate with the Duke Athletic Medicine team to deliver integrated, evidence-based care aligned with best practices.
  • Educate and counsel student-athletes on injury prevention, recovery, and overall wellness.
  • Maintain accurate, timely medical documentation and records in compliance with NCAA, institutional, and medical standards.
  • Support additional sports or responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director of Athletic Medicine.
