About The Position

The Head Athletic Trainer/Director of Sports Medicine is responsible for the coverage of practices and games for all intercollegiate sports teams, documentation of injuries, and processing medical paperwork to ensure compliance with NCAA legislation. This role is the primary decision-maker on the playing status of all athletes and is accountable for the daily maintenance of the training room and related equipment and supplies. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in athletic training or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience as an athletic trainer, preferably in the collegiate setting.
  • Comprehensive injury evaluations.
  • Develop treatment and rehabilitation protocols.
  • Advanced knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
  • Proficiency in injury tracking software and documentation of injuries.
  • Knowledge of and ability to follow university policies and procedures.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the campus community.
  • NCAA sport rules and regulations.
  • Game day management and best practices.
  • Sound independent judgment and ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with a diverse population.
  • Excellent attention to detail, problem solving, analytical, communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • Understanding of organizational processes and strong follow-up skills.
  • Good time management and project management skills.
  • Current National Board of Certification Athletic Training Certification required.
  • Current Pennsylvania Board of Medicine License in Athletic Training required.
  • Current First Aid/CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer Certification required.
  • Night and weekend availability is required.
  • Ability to drive a 15-passenger van is required.

Responsibilities

  • Coverage of practices and games for all intercollegiate sports teams.
  • Documentation of injuries and processing of medical paperwork for NCAA compliance.
  • Making decisions on the playing status of all athletes.
  • Daily maintenance of the training room and related equipment and supplies.
  • Evaluate and diagnose acute and chronic sports-related injuries of NCAA Division II athletes in 14 varsity sports.
  • Create treatment and rehab protocols as necessary for the management of acute and chronic sports-related injuries.
  • Provide first aid care as necessary.
  • Coordinate with orthopedic fellow on in-athletic training room visits and make referrals to team physicians or other physicians as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate and current record keeping of all athletic injuries, and communicate with billing account manager for insurance billing purposes.
  • Make decisions on emergency assistance.
  • Provide updates to the Director of Athletics regarding Athletic Training staff and student-athlete health and safety.
  • Coordinate and assist in the planning and implementing of athletic department events and programming designed to enhance the student-athlete experience and welfare.
  • Assist in development and implementation of athletic department policies and procedures.
  • Communicate directly with coaching staff members regarding athletic injuries and rehabilitation.
  • Assist in determining if environmental conditions are safe for intercollegiate competition and practices.
  • Keep updated personnel files for all Athletic Training staff, interns and work-study students.
  • Submit secondary insurance claims, correspond with outside account managers to ensure all health insurance cards are up-to-date and claims are being processed.
  • Oversee athletic training staff.
  • Maintain daily upkeep of athletic training room.
  • Serve as primary contact for Drug Free Sport and oversee NCAA and in-house on-site drug testing.
  • Monitor staff and ensure all Athletic Training personnel maintain required certifications, licensure and continuing education units.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of supplies and use forecasting to predict supply needs for upcoming school year.
  • Order supplies and coordinate with vendor to reconcile billing.
  • Prepare practices and contests with necessary supplies.
  • Responsible for site supervision of home events as assigned.
