About The Position

The Assistant Director of Athletic Communication will report to the Director of Athletic Communication and work collaboratively to promote USI’s 19 men’s and women’s intercollegiate varsity teams. This includes serving as creator of social media content, writing game stories, notes and press releases, updating USIScreamingEagles.com, updating and archiving records and assisting with photography and video packages. The position serves as a primary contact for several athletic teams and will publicize those sports across a wide variety of platforms using multiple tools including photography, video, graphics and creative story telling. The Assistant Director of Athletic Communication should possess excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, as well as a strong ability to work independently and collaboratively. The position will play a crucial role in building Athletics’ reputation and audience by producing high-quality content that engages and excites fans.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in sports communication or a related field.
  • 2-3 years of experience in intercollegiate athletics or professional sports.
  • Prior work as a graduate assistant or undergraduate may be considered.
  • Knowledge of trends in the industry, techniques and principles of writing, publication and graphic design.
  • Knowledge of various multimedia editing software programs.
  • Knowledge of social media platforms and the latest trends and best practices for multimedia applications.
  • Basic knowledge of collegiate athletic media relations practices and operations.
  • Position requires considerable initiative, creativity, and independence.
  • Evidence of strong communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with statistical software such as NCAA Live Stats, Presto, Stat Input and Statcrew.
  • Experience with Baseball/Softball Stringer is a plus.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, especially Photoshop, InDesign, and Bridge/Lightroom.
  • Experience with Premiere, Audition, and After Effects is a plus.
  • Experience with photo and video cameras.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and update USIScreamingEagles.com.
  • Update and archive rosters, statistics and records for assigned sports.
  • Write game stories and news releases.
  • Produce official notes for media and broadcasting purposes.
  • Create and post content to social media channels.
  • Assist with maintaining the Athletics photo library.
  • Coordinate interview requests and media relations for assigned sports.
  • Help manage USI’s gameday press box and scorer’s table staff.
  • Serve as primary contact for several varsity sports as assigned.
  • Generate additional feature content, photography and video to promote awareness, engagement and interest.
  • Assist in the collection and dissemination of statistics, utilizing NCAA LiveStats, StatCrew, and/or Presto Sports.
  • Help oversee and uphold Athletics and University style guidelines and brand standards.
  • Assist with USI’s live video productions, including USI’s ESPN+ and in-house Arena events.
  • Participation in continuing education as required by the NCAA, Conference and/or Institution is required.
  • Adhering to all NCAA, Conference, and Institutional rules and regulations is required at all times.
  • All violations must be reported to the Senior Associate Director of Athletics, Director of Compliance or their designee immediately.
  • Other duties as assigned.
