About The Position

This yearly position is a 11-month appointment starting August 1 through June 30. The Assistant Director of Athletic Communications will assist in coverage of all IWU Athletic teams, with specific sport assignments for 11 teams. This role involves coordinating and implementing the department’s social media outreach plan, managing and posting athletic event components, and creating monthly student/coaches features to highlight the mission of IWU Athletics. The position also includes assisting in the recruitment, oversight, and development of student staff for various roles such as social media, scorer’s table, stats, announcing, broadcasting, photography, videography, graphic design, and athletic department history maintenance. Responsibilities also include handling record book management, utilizing digital archiving procedures, running the football video board, managing storage/library of annual files, photographs, awards, and videography, and writing/editing communication materials. A key part of the role is developing and managing the IWU Athletics website, ensuring accurate and timely content dissemination. The Assistant Director will also manage the Catalyst student-led hype crew and perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree (English, Communications/Journalism, Sports Management or similar preferred).
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to multitask.
  • Good interpersonal communication skills.
  • Previous experience as a writer, journalist, yearbook editor, or similar.
  • Video filming and editing experience.
  • Adobe Creative Suite software experience.
  • Presto Stats software experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in coverage of all IWU Athletic teams.
  • Specific sport assignment of 11 teams.
  • Assist in coordination and implementation of the department’s social media outreach plan.
  • Manage and post athletic event components such as pregame, in-game, and post-game.
  • Create monthly student/coaches features to highlight the mission of IWU Athletics.
  • Assist in recruitment, oversight, and development of 20-30 student staff that help with social media, scorer’s table, stats, announcing, broadcasting, photography, videography, graphic design, and athletic department history maintenance.
  • Handle record book management and continually work to catalog all aspects of Athletics Communications, utilizing digital archiving procedures that include website and cloud technology.
  • Run the football video board for all home football games.
  • Manage storage/library of annual files, photographs, miscellaneous awards, and videography.
  • Write and edit various communication materials, weekly previews, game recaps, game notes and sport-specific content for the department’s website.
  • Develop and manage the IWU Athletics website while helping in the maintaining accurate, up-to-date, and timely content and news dissemination (including all aspects of the website such as rosters, schedules, biographies, results, and assisting in website management).
  • Manage Catalyst student-led hype crew throughout the entire year.
  • Other projects and/or duties as assigned by the supervisor or athletics administrative team.
