About The Position

WM is hiring an Assistant Diesel Mechanic to maintain and repair trucks and equipment that support its customers and local communities. The position involves working with modern tools and procedures on diesel equipment and, at some locations, CNG trucks. The mechanic assists senior mechanics, performs repairs and inspections, responds to emergency service calls, and follows established safety and documentation procedures. The role is based at WM’s hauling site in Compton, California, in a repair and maintenance shop, with work both indoors and outdoors. The schedule is Monday through Friday on the second shift, starting at 4:00 p.m., with occasional Saturdays. Two weeks of training in Arizona is required. Overtime is available.

Requirements

Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Must be over 18 years of age.
Must be legally eligible to work in the United States.
Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Successfully complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and physical.
Must have own tools.
Must be able to complete two weeks of training in Arizona.

Responsibilities

Inspect, diagnose, and repair electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake, and air systems on vehicles and equipment.
Estimate time and material costs for vehicle repairs and new parts.
Perform work within Standard Labor Repair Times (SRTs).
Respond to emergency breakdown service calls.
Conduct vehicle safety checks.
Complete required paperwork, document parts usage, and account for repair times.
Assist senior mechanics with project work.
Review, complete, or assign repairs identified on Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports.
Maintain a clean and safe work area in compliance with corporate and OSHA standards, and perform work according to established safety procedures.
