About The Position

WM is hiring an Assistant Diesel Mechanic to maintain and repair trucks and equipment serving communities across the United States. The role works in a repair and maintenance shop at WM’s Compton, California hauling site, using modern tools and procedures to service diesel equipment and, at some locations, CNG trucks. The position offers a starting base pay of $34.87 per hour, plus a $2.00 shift differential, and a $300 annual boot allowance. The schedule is Monday through Friday on second shift, starting at 4:00 p.m., with occasional Saturdays. Candidates must be able to complete two weeks of training in Arizona.

Requirements

Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
Must be over 18 years of age.
Must be legally eligible to work in the United States.
Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position, with or without reasonable accommodations.
Successfully complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and physical.
Must have own tools.
Must be able to complete two weeks of training in Arizona.

Responsibilities

Inspect, diagnose, and repair electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake, and air systems on vehicles and equipment.
Estimate time and material costs for vehicle repairs and new parts.
Complete work within Standard Labor Repair Times (SRTs).
Respond to emergency breakdown service calls.
Perform vehicle safety checks.
Complete required paperwork, document parts usage, and account for repair times.
Assist senior mechanics with project work.
Review, complete, or assign repairs identified on Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports.
Maintain a clean and safe work area in compliance with Corporate and OSHA standards and follow established safety procedures.
