About The Position

This is a Research Assistant position for the Spring/Summer 2026 semester within the Faculty of Health Sciences, specifically in the Research unit of the School of Nursing. The role involves supporting research activities, potentially including community engagement, data collection, and report writing. The position is classified as a Research Assistant (CUPE) and is posted as a Research/Research type. There are 3 positions available, with a total of 45 work hours. The hourly rate varies depending on whether the student is undergraduate ($31.89) or graduate ($50.25), excluding vacation and statutory pay. The academic year runs from September 1 to August 31.

Requirements

  • Experience collaborating with or knowledge of community organizations working with Black communities.
  • Significant contribution to a community-based research project (e.g., planning, data collection).
  • Mastery of documentary research methods, including the design and implementation of database search strategies.
  • Ability to mobilize and engage members of Black communities through various communication channels (including social media) in dialogue activities, both virtual and in-person, on chronic diseases.
  • Active participation in the writing, revision, and preparation of reports.
  • Planning and organizing dialogue sessions (virtual and in-person) between health professionals and members of Black communities on chronic diseases (e.g., Diabetes).

Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in the writing, revision, and preparation of reports.
  • Plan and organize dialogue sessions (virtual and in-person) between health professionals and members of Black communities on chronic diseases (e.g., Diabetes).
  • Approximately 5 hours per community conversation session.
