About The Position

The part-time assistant distance coach provides instruction and leadership to student-athletes under the direction of the head coach. The part-time assistant coach is primarily responsible for teaching proper techniques and skill development in the area of distance running. Position responsibilities include planning and executing instructional practice sessions, facilitating discipline-specific lessons and attending meets. Other responsibilities may include monitoring academic progress of student athletes, recruitment of student athletes and other athletic support functions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree required
• Knowledge of techniques and workouts for distance events (certifications preferred)
• Ability to communicate with team and coaches in distinct and effective methods
• Ability to drive team vans to necessary sites.

• A minimum of two years of relevant experience is required

Nice To Haves

• Master’s degree is preferred.
• One year of college level athletic coaching is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Planning and conducting practices for athletes competing in the distance events
• Evaluation and recruitment of qualified prospective student athletes
• Ability to work weekdays and weekends as needed
• Design planning, supervising and executing specific training plans for Cross Country and Track and Field distance team
• Assist with driving vehicles to and from competition sites
• Assist with fund-raising projects for track and field team and the department
• Assist with maintaining accurate records of expenses incurred while working within the provided budget
• Assist with maintaining daily and yearly inventory of equipment, uniforms and supplies
• Other duties as assigned.
