About The Position

The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina is seeking an Assistant Track/Cross Country Coach in the Athletics department. This role serves as the Assistant Track and Field/Cross Country Coach for a Division I program, adhering to all NCAA, SoCon and institutional rules. The Citadel, also known as the Military College of South Carolina, is a public senior military college located in Charleston, South Carolina. Founded in 1842, The Citadel has a rich history and educational reputation. There are about 2,300 undergraduate students who make up the South Carolina Corps of Cadets. Out of the Corps of Cadets, 1 out of 3 graduates earn a military commission. Students can choose from 31 Majors, 57 Minors, pre-health professions, and pre-law (a concentration in political science). The 11:1 student-to-faculty ratio guarantees students a quality education. Another 1,000 students attend the Graduate College, evening and online programs.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree is required.
  • Must be highly organized and have strong leadership and communication skills.
  • The Citadel demands thorough knowledge and adherence to institutional, Southern Conference and NCAA rules.
  • Previous experience as a player and coach and a thorough knowledge of the skills required to teach Collegiate Track and Field/Cross Country are required.
  • Division I playing and coaching experience.
  • Able to meet the physical demands of coaching Track and Field/Cross Country.
  • Must be able to work outside in variable weather conditions, be on your feet for long periods of time and be able to travel when required.
  • Ability to work weekends, nights and early mornings is required.
  • Ability to perform drills in both an individual and team setting are required.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching, practice planning, tactical and game strategizing.
  • Supports, encourages and mentors student athletes.
  • Monitors and advises regarding the academic excellence of student-athletes.
  • Works with both individual and team training sessions.
  • Collaboration with strength and conditioning coaches on development of training plans for student-athletes.
  • Communicates and collaborates with sports medicine staff to ensure the health and safety of the student-athletes.
  • Responsible for ordering supplies, financial reporting responsibilities, travel and official scheduling.
  • Reporting to the SoCon, camp and clinic paperwork, recruitment reports, knowledge of and compliance with all NCAA, SoCon and Institutional rules and regulations; completion of compliance reports.
  • Assists with scholarship generation and reporting with the compliance office and sport supervisor.
