About The Position

Culver School District is seeking a dynamic, flexible, and committed individual for a temporary Assistant Cook position for the 26/27 school year. This role involves working 4 hours per day, with somewhat flexible hours between 9 am and 1 pm. The ideal candidate will deliver high-quality customer service, grow professionally, and be an enthusiastic team member, interacting positively with students, parents, and colleagues. Under direct supervision, the Nutrition Services Assistant Cook performs food preparation, service, and kitchen cleaning duties, following defined procedures and regulations. The position requires professional interaction with students, staff, and the public.

Requirements

  • Excellent communication skills: ability to communicate in a positive manner and get along with others in a high stress environment
  • Must be in good physical condition
  • Ability to lift 50lbs and stand for prolonged periods
  • Ability to read, understand and carry out oral and written instructions
  • Possess, or ability to obtain, an Oregon Food Handler’s Permit
  • Ability to comprehend USDA record keeping concepts
  • Ability to comprehend basic food preparation math and measurement concepts
  • Ability to adjust to immediate changes
  • Ability to perform several job functions at one time
  • Basic ability to read, write, and communicate
  • Ability to understand directions and basic mathematical concepts
  • Ability to read, interpret and convert measuring devices
  • Adhere to federal requirement for a drug-free and tobacco-free workplace.
  • Attend regularly scheduled food service workshops.
  • Fingerprinting and Criminal History Check at employee’s expense is Required once hired

Nice To Haves

  • Previous school kitchen experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Performs food preparation duties.
  • Prepares salad bar offerings and assists with breakfast and lunch meals, following rigid timeframes and regulations through their completion.
  • Operates equipment found in school kitchens.
  • Serve food.
  • Performs cleaning, dish washing and other general duties in a kitchen or serving area.
  • May assist with the opening and closing of the kitchen prior to the beginning and after the ending of each school year.
  • Assists in the cleaning and storing of equipment and food supplies.
  • Assures an adequate supply of food items for the preparation of future menu dishes.
  • Maintains the cleanliness and orderliness of the kitchen/cafeteria.
  • Completes and maintains required records.
  • Fulfills other related duties as assigned.
  • Completes required professional standards.
  • Meets performance standards identified in the evaluation process as required by the position.
  • Capable of performing assigned tasks given working conditions and physical effort listed below.
