About The Position

The Assistant Coach Women's Basketball assists the Head Women’s Basketball Coach in all aspects of operating Merrimack College’s NCAA Division I women’s basketball program. The role supports the development and implementation of training sessions, practices, and competition plans; coaches and educates student-athletes; and contributes to their personal, academic, and athletic development. The position is full-time and reports directly to the Head Women’s Basketball Coach. Responsibilities must be carried out in accordance with NCAA Division I, Metro Conference, and Merrimack College rules, regulations, and policies. The coach also contributes to recruiting, team administration, travel and competition logistics, staff leadership, compliance, departmental activities, alumni engagement, fundraising, and community outreach. Candidates should be prepared to support Merrimack College’s Catholic Augustinian mission and help foster an accepting and respectful community. Employment is subject to successful completion of a criminal background check.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
Demonstrated knowledge of and success in developing basketball skills and student-athlete performance.
Strong knowledge of basketball instruction, game preparation, and competitive collegiate basketball.
Commitment to supporting student-athletes’ academic success, personal development, and overall well-being.
Outstanding interpersonal skills and strong verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent administrative and organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize responsibilities and complete tasks by established deadlines.
Ability to work effectively with student-athletes, coaches, administrators, alumni, donors, and other members of the Merrimack College community.

Nice To Haves

Collegiate basketball and/or coaching experience.
NCAA Division I playing and/or coaching experience.

Responsibilities

Assist with all aspects of the women’s basketball program under the Head Women’s Basketball Coach, including team organization, training, recruiting, equipment, travel, and game preparation.
Organize, plan, and conduct effective basketball practices.
Help prepare individual student-athletes for intercollegiate competition.
Support student-athletes’ personal, academic, and athletic development by fostering a positive, disciplined, and team-oriented environment and promoting sportsmanship, leadership, accountability, and personal growth.
Monitor and support student-athletes’ academic progress, encourage effective time management, and collaborate with institutional resources to support academic success.
Assist with recruiting, including identifying and evaluating prospects, communicating with recruits and families, and participating in campus visits and other recruiting activities in accordance with applicable rules.
Assist with team travel, tournament logistics, scheduling, equipment, facilities, and other program administration.
Provide leadership to additional coaching staff, volunteer coaches, and auxiliary staff members, if applicable.
Represent Merrimack College and the Women’s Basketball program professionally and with sportsmanship and integrity.
Promote compliance with NCAA rules, Metro Conference requirements, and Merrimack College policies.
Participate in departmental activities, including staff meetings, compliance education, professional development, guest speaker presentations, and other events and meetings.
Assist with alumni engagement, fundraising, community outreach, and other activities supporting the program.
Fulfill other responsibilities assigned by the Head Women’s Basketball Coach and/or sport administrator.
