About The Position

Emory University is seeking an Assistant Professor of Medicine for its Division of Hospital Medicine. This role is for an inpatient Hospital Medicine faculty physician (NOCTURNIST) serving at Emory's hospital sites, including Emory University Hospital, Emory Johns Creek Hospital, Emory University Hospital Midtown, or Emory Saint Joseph's Hospital. The position involves a significant commitment to professional service, with expectations for scholarship and teaching as well.

Requirements

  • Must be a physician with a faculty appointment as Assistant Professor of Medicine.
  • Must be a nocturnist specializing in hospital medicine.
  • Must be able to perform history and physical examinations.
  • Must be able to assess patient acuity and ensure appropriate level of care.
  • Must be credentialed for bedside procedures.
  • Must be able to provide and order consultations.
  • Must be able to communicate with outpatient primary care providers.
  • Must be able to work with trainees, including allied health professionals.
  • Must be able to devote time to scholarship.
  • Must be able to devote time to teaching.
  • Must be able to devote significant time to professional service.
  • Must perform duties in-person at an Emory University location.

Responsibilities

  • History and physical examinations of patients being admitted to the hospital.
  • Assessing the acuity of hospitalized patients and ensuring a proper level of care.
  • Performing bedside procedures as needed and credentialed for.
  • Providing consultations for specialty provider partners.
  • Ordering consultations from specialty provider partners.
  • Initiating contact with primary care providers and teams in the outpatient setting to ensure appropriate continuity of care.
  • Working with trainees, which may include allied health professionals, on some months.
  • Devoting between 1% and 25% of total professional effort to scholarly activities, such as manuscript authorship, participation in research studies, abstract presentations, and professional blogs.
  • Devoting between 1% and 25% of total professional effort to teaching, including occasional lectures, small group and bedside teaching, preceptorship, and mentorship.
  • Devoting more than 75% of total professional effort to professional service.
