About The Position

Emory University is seeking an Assistant Professor of Medicine for the Emory Division of Hospital Medicine. This position is for an inpatient Hospital Medicine faculty physician serving at Emory's hospital sites, including Emory University Hospital, Emory Johns Creek Hospital, Emory University Hospital Midtown, or Emory Saint Joseph's Hospital. The role involves a combination of scholarship, teaching, and professional service, with the majority of effort dedicated to clinical duties as an inpatient Hospital Medicine physician.

Requirements

  • Must be a physician.
  • Must be an Assistant Professor of Medicine.
  • Must be qualified for inpatient Hospital Medicine faculty physician role.
  • Must be able to perform history and physical examinations.
  • Must be able to assess patient acuity and ensure proper level of care.
  • Must be able to perform bedside procedures as needed and credentialed.
  • Must be able to provide and order consultations.
  • Must be able to communicate with outpatient primary care providers.
  • Must be able to work with trainees.
  • Must be able to adhere to clinical schedules.
  • Must be able to devote between 1% and 25% of effort to scholarship.
  • Must be able to devote between 1% and 25% of effort to teaching.
  • Must be able to devote more than 75% of effort to professional service.
  • Position tasks are required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location.

Responsibilities

  • Devote between 1% and 25% of total professional effort to scholarly activities, which may include authorship of manuscripts, participation in research studies, abstract presentations, and professional blogs.
  • Devote between 1% and 25% of total professional effort to teaching, which may include occasional lectures, small group and bedside teaching, preceptorship, and mentorship.
  • Devote more than 75% of total professional effort to professional service as an inpatient Hospital Medicine physician.
  • Perform history and physical examinations of patients admitted to the hospital.
  • Assess the acuity of hospitalized patients and ensure a proper level of care.
  • Perform bedside procedures as needed and credentialed for.
  • Provide consultation services for specialty provider partners.
  • Order consultations from specialty provider partners.
  • Initiate contact with primary care providers and teams in the outpatient setting to ensure appropriate continuity of care.
  • Work with trainees, which may include allied health professionals, on some months.
  • Adhere to clinical schedule in accordance with internal Division policy and procedures and actual clinical effort.
