About The Position

A school coach provides the practice, support, supervision, and advice needed to help a team succeed against opposing teams during a sports season. The coach organizes out-of-season workouts, tryouts, and season practices, and collaborates with school administration and the athletic director on scheduling that affects the sport. Coaches are expected to help field teams of quality student-athletes who represent Botetourt County Public Schools with strong character, and to maintain professionalism while representing the school. Coaches should work closely with athletic directors and administration when issues arise that may require additional support.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED; comparable training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
• Possession of a valid driver's license.
• Ability to successfully pass a criminal background investigation.
• Previous experience playing or coaching the applicable sport.
• Knowledge of the rules and regulations of the sport being coached.
• Strong leadership, interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.
• Ability to teach relevant skills, tactics, and techniques.
• Attendance at VHSL Coaches’ Education and pre-season coaches’ meetings led by the BCPS Athletic Director.

Responsibilities

• Organize out-of-season workouts, tryouts, and season practices.

• Monitor individual and team performance and provide constructive feedback.
• Collaborate with administration and the athletic director on scheduling that affects the sport.
• Support the development of teams with quality players who demonstrate strong character.
• Maintain professionalism while representing Botetourt County Public Schools.
• Work with athletic directors and administration on issues that may require additional support.
• Perform administrative tasks related to team organization and distribution of team information.
• Perform related work as required.
