About The Position

The Assistant Coach assists the Head Coach with the organization, management, operation, development, safety, and leadership of all levels of the baseball program, including students and volunteers. The role requires understanding, adhering to, and enforcing policies, procedures, and best practices established by Carmel Catholic High School, the Archdiocese of Chicago, the IHSA, the State of Illinois, and other relevant associations. The position is part-time, stipend-based, and for one school year, subject to annual review and renewal. The Assistant Coach is hired by the Principal in consultation with the Athletic Director and performs duties delegated by the Head Coach or Athletic Director. Hours vary Monday through Sunday, including evenings and weekends, according to the athletic schedule and school needs. Attendance is required at all practices, competitions, and other events determined by the Head Coach. The job involves moderate to strong physical activity, usually standing and moving, with some lifting potentially required. The coach may work outdoors for extended periods in inclement weather and must communicate detailed information verbally and in writing.

Requirements

Possess current ASEP, NFHS, State of Illinois teaching, or State of Illinois substitute-teaching certification.
Demonstrate excellent organizational, management, communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrate the ability to lead, instruct, and supervise students, assistant coaches, and volunteers.
Demonstrate knowledge of the athletic activity, including technical skills, competitive strategies, and rules of play.
Demonstrate the ability to prioritize multiple tasks, delegate effectively, and work to deadlines.
Demonstrate willingness and ability to work with a diverse student, staff, and community population.
Possess excellent character and the ability to use sound judgment in decision-making.
Be able to receive and impart detailed information through verbal and written communication.
Be able to work in situations involving people and within set limits, tolerances, and standards.
Be able to perform moderate to strong physical activity, usually standing and moving; some lifting may be required.
Be able to work outdoors for extended periods, including during inclement weather.

Responsibilities

Assist with the ongoing development of fundamental skills, competitive strategies, and rules of play.
Assist with the ongoing development of strength, conditioning, flexibility, mental health, and recovery.
Assist with the development of servant leadership, sportsmanship, and teamwork.
Communicate regularly with students, families, staff, the Athletic Trainer, and the Athletic Office.
Enforce team policies fairly and justly.
Regularly evaluate program and team-member performance criteria.
Maintain records, including attendance, statistics, inventory, and schedules.
Assist in scheduling training sessions, practices, competitions, and team transportation.
Enforce school policies related to eligibility, discipline, safety and security, and transportation.
Distribute, collect, and manage program inventory.
Help maintain the safety, cleanliness, and condition of program inventory and facilities.
Assist with student recognition, including attending the seasonal Awards Night.
Assist with feeder programs in a manner that promotes the school and complies with related regulations.
Assist with summer camps in a manner that promotes the school and complies with related regulations.
Participate in ongoing staff training and professional development, and execute duties delegated by the Head Coach.
Help maintain positive relationships with the media, conference and association leadership, and school alumni.
Perform additional duties in service of Carmel Catholic High School as assigned by the Athletic Director or Head Coach.
Attend all practices, competitions, and other events as determined by the Head Coach.
