About The Position

The Assistant Bakery Manager provides excellent customer satisfaction through leading Bakery Clerks and assisting the Bakery Manager with the daily supervision of Bakery Department operations. The role involves helping manage and merchandise the department for productivity and profit, maintaining ordering and inventory controls, overseeing product quality and the Bakery team, and ensuring excellent customer service. The position also includes rotating merchandise, building displays, checking incoming cases for damaged items, unloading and sorting store deliveries, and operating and maintaining department equipment. The Assistant Bakery Manager helps ensure that company health, safety, and sanitation rules are followed by the Bakery team.

Requirements

At least 18 years of age.
Minimum of two years of retail grocery experience.
Minimum of two years of supervisory experience.
Dependable and reliable, with the ability to work a changing flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Outgoing and friendly behavior, a positive attitude, and ability to interact with customers.
Good communication skills and ability to give and take direction in a team environment.
Ability to operate and use knives, scales, wrappers, compactors, garbage disposals, pallet jacks, and hand trucks as needed.
Knowledge of scales and weight measures to accurately weigh and label products.
Ability to stand continuously for up to three hours and for a total of eight hours per shift.
Ability to vertically transfer trays weighing up to 5 pounds from 7 inches to 64 inches for up to 10 hours, and to vertically and horizontally transfer items weighing up to 40 pounds from 5 inches to 36 inches over distances up to 36 feet for up to 10 hours without mechanical assistance.
Adhere to safety, health, and Weights and Measures regulations.
Obtain and maintain a Food Handlers permit.

Responsibilities

Assist the Bakery Manager in managing and merchandising the department for maximum productivity and profit.
Manage ordering and inventory controls, product quality, and supervision of the Bakery team.
Rotate merchandise and build displays.
Monitor incoming cases for damaged items.
Ensure excellent customer service and monitor Bakery product quality.
Unload and sort store deliveries; operate and maintain department equipment.
Ensure compliance with company health, safety, and sanitation guidelines and regulations, and verify Bakery team members follow these procedures.
Answer phones and take special orders.
Perform general housekeeping and clean and sanitize the work area, including tables, floors, walls, cases, coolers, and freezers.
