About The Position

The Assistant Bakery Manager provides excellent customer satisfaction through the management and leadership of Bakery Clerks and assists the Bakery Manager with daily supervision of Bakery Department operations. The role includes managing and merchandising the department to support productivity and profit, overseeing ordering and inventory controls, product quality, and team supervision, and ensuring excellent customer service. The position also involves executing merchandise rotation and displays, checking deliveries for damaged items, unloading and sorting deliveries, operating and maintaining department equipment, and ensuring the team follows company health, safety, and sanitation guidelines. The role requires a flexible schedule that may include nights, weekends, and holidays, as well as meeting physical requirements for standing, lifting, and transferring items. Team members must adhere to safety, health, and Weights and Measures regulations and obtain and maintain a Food Handlers permit.

Requirements

• Be at least 18 years of age.
• Have a minimum of two years of retail grocery experience and two years of supervisory experience.
• Be dependable and reliable, with the ability to work a changing, flexible schedule that includes nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Demonstrate outgoing, friendly behavior, a positive attitude, and the ability to interact with customers.
• Have good communication skills and the ability to give and take direction in a team environment.
• Be able to answer phones and take special orders.
• Be able to perform general housekeeping and clean and sanitize work areas, including tables, floors, walls, cases, coolers, and freezers.
• Be able to operate and use knives, scales, wrappers, compactors, garbage disposals, pallet jacks, and hand trucks as needed.
• Know how to use scales and weight measures to accurately weigh and label products.
• Be able to stand continuously for up to three hours and for a total of eight hours per shift.
• Be able to vertically transfer trays weighing up to 5 lbs. from 7 to 64 inches for up to 10 hours.
• Be able to vertically and horizontally transfer items weighing up to 40 lbs. from 5 to 36 inches, for distances up to 36 feet, for up to 10 hours without mechanical assistance.
• Adhere to safety, health, and Weights and Measures regulations and obtain and maintain a Food Handlers permit.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Bakery Manager in managing and merchandising the department for maximum productivity and profit.
• Manage ordering and inventory controls, product quality, and supervision of the Bakery team.
• Execute merchandise rotation and build displays.
• Monitor incoming cases for damaged items.
• Ensure excellent customer service and monitor Bakery product quality.
• Unload and sort store deliveries and operate and maintain department equipment.
• Ensure company health, safety, and sanitation guidelines and regulations are followed, and confirm Bakery team members also understand and follow procedures.
• Answer phones and take special orders.
• Perform general housekeeping and clean and sanitize the department work area.
• Follow safety, health, and Weights and Measures regulations and maintain a Food Handlers permit.
