About The Position

The Assistant Bakery Manager provides excellent customer satisfaction through management and leadership of Bakery Clerks and assists the Bakery Manager with daily supervision of Bakery Department operations. The role supports merchandising and department management for productivity and profit, ordering and inventory controls, product quality, and team supervision. It also involves rotating merchandise, building displays, checking incoming cases for damaged items, unloading and sorting deliveries, and operating and maintaining department equipment. The Assistant Bakery Manager ensures excellent customer service and product quality, and helps ensure the team follows company health, safety, and sanitation guidelines. The position requires a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as well as physical work involving standing, lifting, and transferring items.

Requirements

At least 18 years of age.
At least two years of retail grocery experience.
At least two years of supervisory experience.
Dependable and reliable, with the ability to work a changing, flexible schedule that includes nights, weekends, and holidays.
Outgoing, friendly behavior, a positive attitude, and the ability to interact with customers.
Good communication skills and the ability to give and take direction while participating in a team environment.
Ability to operate and use knives, scales, wrappers, compactors, garbage disposals, pallet jacks, and hand trucks as needed.
Knowledge of scales and weight measures to accurately weigh and label products.
Ability to stand continuously for up to three hours and for a total of eight hours per shift.
Ability to vertically transfer trays weighing up to 5 pounds from 7 inches to 64 inches for up to 10 hours.
Ability to vertically and horizontally transfer items weighing up to 40 pounds, from 5 inches to 36 inches, up to 36 feet, for up to 10 hours without mechanical assistance.
Ability to achieve and maintain a Food Handlers permit.

Responsibilities

Assist the Bakery Manager in managing and merchandising the department for maximum productivity and profit.
Manage ordering and inventory controls, product quality, and supervision of the Bakery team.
Execute merchandise rotation and build displays.
Monitor incoming cases for damaged items.
Ensure excellent customer service and monitor Bakery product quality.
Unload and sort store deliveries; operate and maintain deli equipment.
Ensure company health, safety, and sanitation guidelines and regulations are followed, and verify that Bakery team members understand and follow these procedures.
Answer phones and take special orders.
Perform general housekeeping in the department and clean and sanitize work areas, including tables, floors, walls, cases, coolers, and freezers.
Adhere to safety, health, and Weights and Measures regulations, and achieve and maintain a Food Handlers permit.
